When you run EAW what is the version number at the bottom left of the mainscreen? Jel

Understood, but what I am curious about is the version of your eaw.exe when it is running in default mode. Your posts here are a bit confusing. In some threads you are trying to run old stuff like PTII, which needs 1.2 and will not run with any of the 1.28 series of exes. Then in others you are trying to run stuff which needs 1.28e. It is quite possible to have two EAW folders. The first is the normal install patched to 1.2, in which you run the old stuff (assuming you do not get the 7217 error). The second is a copy of the first which you upgrade to 1.28E. Cheers Jel

All are in separate folders with a shortcut on the desktop.I play each one whenever I feel like it. I'm trying to reinstall Pacific Tide II which I'm having trouble with and I'm trying, without success thusfar, to install new game Finnish air War I'll reinstall FAW today as I did it and drop az line here to advise you what's happening.

Jel,I saw that the version is 1.2.So I uninstalled the whole setup.Reinstalled EAW to it's own folder, didn't patch it to 1.2,dropped the FAW 1.28e update file into the folder, then the ETO sounds file and then the Planes file. The folder appeared to have it all there including the FAWMan Exe file.Fired it up,went to the FAW management screen, selected for a mission(the ready didn't change at all, showed ready all the time),launched and again went to EAW.I'm obviously doing something wrong. Please give me a step by step install guide so I can get it right Thanks.

From what you have written the eaw.exe in your folder is 1.2 (or earlier if not patched to 1.2) The FAW manager is written to use features in the 1.28E version of the eaw.exe, especially the "Dir.set" system. Based on your selections the FAW manager puts a file in you EAW folder named "Dir.set" which contains a list of paths to folders that the eaw.exe should use. When the 1.28E eaw.exe runs it checks to see if there is a "Dir.set" file in the EAW folder, and if there is it looks in the folders listed to get the files it needs. The 1.2 eaw.exe is not programmed to read "Dir.set" files, so all it can do is use the files in the stock CDFs and run default EAW. So it can never run FAW, and that is why you get the default game. What you need to do is to upgrade your FAW folder to the 1.28E version of the eaw.exe. As you seem to use multiple EAW folders (for DAW, SWOTL etc) this should not be a problem. In my signature at the bottom of my posts there is a link named "My new webpage". Click on it, download the four installer files from the 1.28E upgrade section, and run them in the EAW folder you are using for FAW. They are 7-zip self installers, and when you run them they will upgrade that folder to 1.28E. Many people here use the OAW128 file manager, and that upgrade was set up for OAW128 users. As you are not yet using OAW128 there is one extra step that you will need to do. The upgrade will put a folder named "OAW128" in your EAW folder. Look inside it and there should be a folder named "E EAW1.28e" or something similar. Inside that folder there is the 1.28E version of the "eaw.exe". You need to copy this "eaw.exe" and paste it into the EAW folder to overwrite the old 1.2 or earlier version. You should then be able to run FAW. Jel

Thank you. That did the trick.I understood what was happening. I installed EAW,patched it to 1.28e,dropped the FAW update to 1.28e into the patched EAW folder followed by ETO Sounds and planes files and I'm up and running all AOK.Just flew my first mission(didn't get a thing) exited, cleared the manager and went to another mission.I'll try a career tonight. Thank you very much for your patience and assistance,it got me going.

Great. Check out the Dirset Picker link on my webpage for some old scenarios hacked to run on 1.28E including both versions of SPAW. It will also give you use of the ETO_01 and Planes folders. Jel

How does this work? I create a folder with EAW patched to 1.28e and then drop the other downloads into it to enable the Dirset Picker in that EAW Folder??? Is it then that EAW setup as modded that allows me to play the hacked scenarios in it??? Just trying to get my head around how this works.

Just arrived in Serezin du Rhone near Lyon after a 4 hour drive. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/41230226/DSP.htmIf you take the "DitSet Picker" link from this page you will get another 7-zip self installer to run in your 1.28E folder. When you run it, it will install the DirSet Picker program and a "DirSets" folder. In it there will be a file named "ETO01". When you run the DirSet Picker program "ETO01" should appear for selection in the list. To select it you double click. What the DirSet Picker program does is to copy "ETO01" from the DirSets folder, and paste the copy as "Dir.set" in the root folder. When the 1.28E exe runs it reads the "Dir.set" file (as I explained earlier) and uses the folders referenced in it. Now, if you download "SPAW" by clicking on the picture near the bottom of the webpage you will get another 7-zip self installer to run in your 1.28E folder. Running it will install a SPAW folder, and two more files in the DirSets folder. When you run the DSP you will now see three items available for selection; ETO01 SPAW SPAW45 Whichever you select will result in a "Dir.set" file for the selected scenario being written in the root folder for the 1.28E exe to use. All those scenario links work the same way. You get a 7-zip self installer which creates a folder with the stuff for the scenario in it, and a file which should automatically go in the DirSets folder. This file appears for selection when you run the DirSet Picker. The scenarios have been hacked to run with 1.28E. The main hack was to increase the selection screens from 640x480 to 1024x768 and edit the menu files accordingly. There are some other necessary changes too, but I will not bore you with the details. One afterthought! If you are using the FAW manager it is better to have a new 1.28E folder for the DirSet Picker stuff. Just make a new installation and run the four 1.28E installers as you did before- do not forget to copy the exe Jel
