I'm pretty sure most people know that most of the team are working on aspects that will apply to the whole series.

What you don't seem to understand is basically only the Map guy, the Campaign guy, are working exclusively on the Sequel.

The people working on the the new graphic code applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the AI applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the FM applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the DM applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the Commands applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the Sound applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the Dynamic Weather applies to COD and every other sequel.
The people working on the Aircraft for the Sequel, some could also apply historically to the COD maps later time period, or just used there for fun.
The people working on the objects for the Sequel, some of those objects could be used on the COD map.
The people working on the vehicles, some will apply to COD, some to BOM, some to other theaters or time periods.

I'm sure I missed some people and features, but I'm sure most people get my meaning.

Or in other words Stick a Fork in CloD because it is done. If these Devs complete BoM and make a profit on it, they should certainly be congratulated, no doubt about that. They could be considered pioneers at originating a new business model for game software:
Release a broken product, promise to fix it with patches, and then change the promise to "include a sequel which of course will update the original broken game." I seriously dont know whether to laugh or cry. Basically I may get to play a fully functional and working CoD a minumum of two years after it was originally released and I will get a "bonus" BoM game, though I will need to pay for another game to get it. I have to admit it is innovative thinking by those Devs.

That's what it's been looking like - but I hope not!
I paid $50 for the damn thing - I want it fixed.
I don't need it perfect, but at least up to IL2 standards in playability would be nice.

Then I'll happily fork out more cash for an add-on.

I still doubt that we will have to buy BOM to get the improved performance, AI, Commands, FM, DM, etc. BOM is probably a long way off and they will want the new FM, AI, Commands, DM beta tested with a patch for COD. The only way I can see us forced to buy BOM is if the bean counters force it. Dynamic Weather and other new features won't be ready until BOM or even the next Addon. Although the new performance improvements should allow for more clouds conditions without the Dynamic part.

The reason for only releasing the improvements of the the graphics engine in a beta patch might be that the development has been performed on a separate code branch. The development of other features can probably go ahead with the old gfx-code and you will not have integration problems caused by the major re-write of the gfx code. Since people have so many different configurations of gfx-cards and drivers they might want to test this first. In the meantIme they have time to merge the other work they have done with the new graphics code. I'd actually be surprised if there are no other fixes than the gfx-stuff in the next release patch... unless of course these features are not done yet. I can see the clear advantage of getting new code out and tested by the customers before releasing a sequel.

Pure speculation of course ...

Forced to buy ?

Am I to expect some burly Russians popping round to offer a bit of amateur dentistry or free swimming lessons with concrete trunks ?

(I hate car analogies applied to sims but I'm going to do it anyway...!!)

I bought a new Alfa Romeo about 12 years ago. It was a stunning looking car, a 166 2.5 V6. I loved that damn thing....despite the fact it was the worst POS I have ever owned. I loved the style, the handling, the glorious noise it made, just about everything apart from the fact that it just didn't work. They tried to fix it, sure they did but it was fundamentally flawed.

When it was changed I simply didn't buy another Alfa. I never will.

Do I feel compelled to buy another 1C sim. Nah.

The bottom line is after a year after release were still looking at another long wait before we get to see the sim we payed for.
The buck stops with Luthier, his team, his input and direction and IMO he has failed "so far".
I hope he changes and it all comes together for BOM but im guessing that will just more of the same.

For the last time please guys remember this is not Olegs baby, Oleg is not in command, hes gone, IL2 has gone. this is something very different.

Why do you say "for the last time"? - Is that actually the last time you will say it? - In that case THANKS!
