Otherwise the bombers are in trouble.

By luck the german HQ did spread their fighters over the whole country, instead to create one big attacking group, like Galland wanted.

A mass attack of 1000 fighters at same time vs 500-700 Bombers would have stopped the raids for a while, instead often single groups, of widely splitted JG´s, did attack one after the next, from the lowlands to target and back. Even without escort that was like sending the players of a football team one after the next against the other team. And the HQ realy did wonder why the enemy dont got into real bad trouble. They realy thought that their pilots are cowards.
