Was pretty awesome! The biggest surprise was how little the flight stick actually moves, I thought it was locked or something. It barely moves in any direction so is obviously extremely responsive. Other than that was like flying 4.0 with a real F-16 cockpit and a big screen TV in front of you. Was cool operating the radar and such for real instead of with a mouse. Wasn't one of the full 3d ones, we are doing those later.

Where was the sim? Commercially owned or some time at a military simulator?

How cool, Scouts! Any pics? Where was the sim?

The real stick in the F16 is force-sensing, I believe - very little actual movement - so it sounds like you got the real deal!

Yeah I read somewhere that they initially made the stick totally rigid in that it wouldn't move at all. But pilots were too unaccustomed to this so they added a little play to it. Not much but enough to give you some feedback... as if throwing the jet around wasn't enough feedback for you.

It was a real simulator at Luke AFB where we train new F-16 pilots. I am Air Force Intel and new to fighter missions so I have to go through the initial training to support the F-16 missions. We are involved in everything from mission planning to conducting threat training for the pilots. You have to know everything inside and out just as the pilot does, which is the reason for the sim time. For example we have to know not only how the radar works theoretically speaking, but have to know how to physically operate it as well. If I am going to tell a pilot how to defeat a certain threat I have to know what he/she is going through in the cockpit so I don't give them some stupid tip that would be unpractical. Pretty awesome stuff, the course is insane in its scope. I know some Falcon 4.0 fans that would pay good money for a course like this lol.

Nah no pics, secure facility. Yea the movement was insanely limited, I sincerely thought it was a locking feature or something lol. Literally felt like a few mm's in give in any direction.

Is BMS avionics just half that realistic?

Honestly I have not played it. I played the original 4.0 a ton when it came out and then Allied Force, going through this course made me want to get back into it. I ordered an original 4.0 copy and am going to give it a run. I can tell you there are several differences due to classified items, esp with EW, RWR indications, etc. I am also pretty sure the countermeasure maneuvers we would use against threat A/C and SAMs is not accurate seeing as though all of that stuff is classified as well. I am really eager to dive in and test this stuff out, will certainly let you know. Just from watching videos I can tell you the operation of the radar appears to be very accurate, such as controlling antenna elevation, radar range/azimuth, bar scans etc. Whether or not it functions accurately is another story. Can't wait to see! Soon as I get back home in a few weeks I'll start getting up to speed on BMS.

But yea I would guess at least half and probably more, I know real F-16 pilots were in on the whole game so anything unclassified is fair game.
