We had a whole thread over at 1C for about a year before release where Luthier was asking for ideas for missions, i think the thread went on for hundreds of posts, and all we got from it was Spitgirl. smile

I would pay good money to really know what went on with CLODs development through the years.

While I would be inclined to agree with all of the above so far as IL2 was concerned there were some very talented mission designers that put together historical missions and campaigns that were far more engrosing than those shipped with the game. They may have lacked in the 'bells and whistles' department but in the flying certainly drew me in to the objectives or overall aim.

As for CoD there can't be much doubt that once again the technical aspects take priority over gameplay but other games have been released with similarly lacking offline modes that were vastly improved at a later time. For example RoF shipped with a very basic campaign system and first with Pat Wilsons campaign generator and more recently 777's own Career mode has been transformed. That sort of example does give me hope that the offline play in CoD could be made a lot better than it is today.

I think that is going to be alot of work from the development team before the modders can take over, there is no system of pilots, sqds, no medal system. The whole part of CLOD that involves the pilot is just not there.

Good point about the pilot, squad and medal systems. Muchly needed

Yes Robtek but its a cobbled on 3rd party thing, not a proper log book and sqd system where you can track sqd mates and get transferred from sqd to sqd.

Lets hope its possible to add these later then robtek though im sure Luthier has said no more content for CLOD, we might get some fixes for FM and such but no gameplay addons im afraid. frown

I would have been a waste of time for the developer to put considerable resources into building a massive campaign when they new the sim wasn't optimized enough for most people to run it. The developer is still finishing and fine tuning the game engine to make this possible. I doubt we will see any major campaigns built by the developer, but they are building a game engine, FMB with Triggers, and SDK that will give talented people in the community the tools to build very impressive campaigns. If the series survives the unrelenting pessimism, all the hand wringing and angst will be forgotten when the developer finishes the sim. The sooner you guys get over the fact the sim was just released unfinished and not dead, you'll feel better.
