I'm kinda shocked and disappointed that Rockstar Games never released one of the greatest, most unique games on PC... Red Dead Redemption... also shocked that with it's console success, a follow up was never released... Call of Duty gets a yearly release and really for the most part it's just new maps and different perks... but the same ol thing every year. In this day of age when every shooter, no matter if it's good or not seems to get a followup, the best, most unique game dies in the consoles... could you imagine what the PC modder could of done with RDR if it was released and supported for PC, by the mod community? (and OT; why can't they release a HD pack for download for the 360 version of Skyrim? BF3 did it...not as a download, but separate disk.) So anyway... Rockstar games does seem to be hiring for a new open world game... I can only hope it's as good and unique as RDR was. http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1218063p1.html?utm_campaign=twposts&utm_source=twitterJMO

I agree with you. I never finished it, and my saved game progress got wiped out, so I'd need to start over, but I absolutely love that game. It really is a great change of pace. Now I've got RDR on the brain. Thanks alot.

I am still upset that RDR never made the PC. GTA4 with mods was awesome and I would imagine that RDR with mods would be even better.

If I ever get time to start over, I will do that. yeah I know how it ends, but I'd still like to run through it.

RDR was about one of the only games I've played on console and loved it and finished it. I wish they had ported that instead of LA Noire which I also enjoyed and finished on Xbox but wouldn't buy again for PC, RDR I would.

Takes a long time to make a game as big and as polished as RDR. They may have had reservations about committing to a sequel until seeing how a Western would sell. Maybe they're working on it now? Hope so.

Great game, but the sad fact is that Rockstar did the money math and decided against it at the time. A few mitigating circumstances as well:
- GTAIV for the PC was a low third-place in terms of sales (even on pre-orders) compared to X/PS3. It got pirated to death, was released in poor condition and basically took too much time to port.
- Rockstar internally develops just on consoles but port the games themselves in-house using other teams, so when doing the sums/money of if RDR is worth it for the PC they have to account for not only the costs to do it, but also what else that team could be working on (for new console titles). When RDR came out it just happened that nearly all the RS teams were busy, so it was more profitable to get working on new IP.
- Ballpark they would make $4 million on RDR for PC, but it would cost $1+ million to initially dev/port it and then another $1 million to support/patch it (support on PC's is a never ending moving target compare to consoles). Plus then you have to factor in that a team for a year could be making another new title that could make $10 million.
If Rockstar were bigger, or had a different attitude to the PC market when a game was being written (or who could port it) then it would help, but I'd be surprised to now see RDR come across..

Read Dead Redemption was the only reason I got a 360.
Glad I did, as I would have missed one of the best games ever released otherwise.
