I brushed up John's new P-40 model for, well, selfish reasons. I'd like to get it into the DAW planeset. I had a bunch of texture mapping alignment problems to fix, a couple of R/S issues and I added 3D landing gear struts as well as a middle antennae wire:

It needs a little tender loving care on the skin but otherwise I think it's ready to go.

While I was at it I turned my own HR Republic P-35 into an Re2000 for the DAW scenario:

Looking good Ray. cool

But stand by for moans on the aerial wire position. I can't find the pic I was send by Perter, but I'm sure he will steer you in a good direction. wink

Hi Ray,

did you link the flaps to the flaps action code??

For sure thats a beauty!

Greetings,

Knegel

No, I forgot to do that, Ralf, thanks for the reminder.

John, as per your e-mail I checked a number of pictures of RAF Tomahawks and the placement seems correct now.

Ray, send me a copy of the model so I can finish up the skin that's on it. I spent quite a few hours getting that shark mouth just right.
I've also got several for the Adam and Eves AVG unit.

Thanks, John, Ray and Mike
for this wonderful Tomahawk (British name for an American Lady wink ) Will be a gem for any North African scenario. And, of course, she looks sooo beautiful - better than the Kittyhawk IMHO.

Ray, the Reggiane Falco I looks gorgeous, too. Just a little hint - the main differences towards the P-35 are the air intakes above and below the radial. Look here:

http://www.finn.it/regia/immagini/musei/fvm_reggiane_re2000_falco1_01.jpg

Would it be possible to add at least the large intake on top? Then this would be a perfect add-on for a Malta scenario. The Re.2000 operated mainly over Malta and over Northern Tunisia using its bases in Sicily. The Regia Aeronautica didn´t have many Re.2000; the main users were Sweden and - Mike will be pleased - Hungary. Hungary acquired 70 Italian planes and produced 200 to use it in its Airforce. Listen, Mike, they used a very colourful camouflage:

http://www.acesofww2.com/hungary/Hungary.htm

The main Reggiane version over Malta and Northern Africa was the Reggiane 2001 Falco II, equipped with the German DB 601 engine, the same as for the Bf109E and Bf109F:

http://www.mauroantonellini.com/joomla/aeroplani/41-reggiane/74-reggiane-2000-2001-2002

The successors were:
Re.2002 Ariete "Ram-Aries"(radial engine)
Re.2005 Sagittario "Archer-Sagittarius"(inline engine DB 605 - Bf 109G and K), which is the most beautiful IMHO of the Reggiane versions:

I know you´re a What-If aficionado, Ray. Here´s the Re.2007, a jet project, for you:

Already at work on the top side air scoop, Fran.

I have a very good book about the Republic Aircraft Company that details how the P-35 design was used as a base for the Re-2000. Without financial remuneration I might add.

The author is critical about the fact that the Italians were able to fit flush retracted landing gear to the wings long before Kartvelli did.

Interesting that the lowly P-35 led to two distinct development lines. The Re200* series and the P-47 series.

BTW, I grew up 10 miles from the main Republic plant on Long Island, NY.( It's a shopping mall now. )

John & Ray,

Nice one! RE aerial wires John, is "Perter" me or another one - my memory is not good these days and it has been on the stocks for a while.

Cheers

Pete

Thanks for sending the model so quickly Ray. I see that you've fixed the 'little finger' that sat at the front of the wing root. It drove me crazy...

Fran, boy is it good to have your eyes and knowledge back with us. Thanks for the Magyar information. I recently acquired a book on "Hungarian Aces of the Eastern Front" and your link add to the book will enable me to do some more skins for A Magyar Kiralyi Honved Legiero in my Eastern Front collection.

Pilot Officer Jack Bartle, 6.5 kills with No.112 Squadron displayed his Aussie roots with a kangaroo on his machine...

And as his wingman, GA - A SN. AK461

Each machine carried a unique shark mouth in No.112. The ground crews and pilots painted their own toothy grins rather than follow one set pattern. Thanks to Pete Booth for researching No.112 and coming up with codes, serial numbers and illustrations.

More to come... Charge

Iam realy looking forward to this!!

The P40C(not the later models) imho is one of the most beautiful planes ever build. The proportions just fit. smile

With such a skin it will be a pleasure to shoot it down. biggrin

The later P40´s look more like a Buchon in comparison to the 109G, just ugly(ok not that ugly, but the proportions dont fit anymore).

btw, Ray, did you fix the flaps action code??

Yes the action codes are correct now but i have to fix a missing element in the wing root.

I'll be working on that today now that the Skua is finished.

Not that I'm aware of. I've got to zero in on the palette and fix the transparencies but it looks OK.

yep

Always liked the Tomahawk which is probably why I have 5 kits of it compared with only 2 Warhawks and 1 P-36
