I'll certainly be testing this app. The author may have found himself a very useful niche product idea for flight simmers. Thanks for the review and the head's-up about this product.

Looks fabulous, thanks for the heads-up Beach! This may very well get me back into DCS A-10, which I gave up on after a bad case of buttonitis.

I couldn't tell... it just gives you HOTAS buttons, no default keyboard commands, right?

Either way great app for those with the phone, like someone said above... an iPad version would be great. (and a BS2 version) wink

This looks great. The only thing I wish it had is the default key mappings for the actions on the checklists.

Anyone notice the screenshots were all taken at 3AM? Staying up late a bit, Chris? LOL.

I'll be grabbing this myself. I have the PDFs on my Kindle, but it's not conducive to quickly thumbing around to the part you need when you may not even remember where that is.

I'm dying to try this, but my (un-rooted) Kindle Fire isn't compatible with the Android Market. Is there a download available so that I can side-load this app?

Talk about timely. I just got a new phone and am discovering apps in general. I remembered there was some sort of apps out there on DCS Warthog and did a search on my new phone and found it. Then I see this article. thumbsup Great read. Thanks BeachAV8R!

Looks like a great app. I have a Kindle Fire and I do not own a droid type phone. I am unable to download it from the Android market because it requires me to have a phone registered with my account and I do not. Is there a way to download the app so I can try it on the Kindle Fire ?

Probably not. Don't think of the Fire as an Android tablet. It's an Amazon tablet that happens to run a small number of Android apps. This isn't one of them.
On the other hand, you can put the PDFs on there and access the manuals much easier than off a phone.

I've read where people have downloaded DCS Manager to their Droid phones, then sideloaded it to the Fire , so I'm pretty sure the app is compatible.

The Fire is probably more Android compatible than you realize. It runs 2.3 (though an Amazon'd version), and every android app I've sideloaded has worked so far (incl. games like World of Goo, Anomaly HD, Edge). It can be connected to the Android Market if properly rooted, but being I've had the Fire for only a week, I don't intend to do this for quite some time (at least until my warranty is expired).

Besides, the 7" size is perfect for a kneeboard. I use it for my F4 PDF checklists, as you suggested.

EDIT: I just found it on GetJar.com, but it's not as simple as downloading the apk. They ask you your tablet model, and putting in the Fire tells you that it is compatible. Of course, GetJar also said that the EVO 4G is also incompatible, and we all know that this is inaccurate (else we wouldn't have a review duh ).

Has anyone been able to find a workaround to get it going on the Kindle Fire yet? I will keep trying it out and report back if I get it working.

I have tried searching GetJar but could not find it on the site. No luck yet. Since it is free maybe someone can post the install somewhere so all can give it a try. Android market requires me to have a Android phone which I do not own, makes it tough to use apps off the site.

FWIW, I have it installed and working on my Kindle Fire.

I emailed the app's creator and asked him if was available anywhere as a plain .apk file (which the Kindle Fire can install via any file manager.)

He sent it to me as an attachment to his reply.

If anyone else wants it you can try emailing him as well, or let me know and I'll upload it to a file-sharing site. --I'm assuming that's legal as this is a completely free app.

Some good news for Fire owners.

I've been in further contact with the app's author and he stated he's going to attempt getting it listed on Amazon's app store.

He's not sure if/when it'll happen though, especially as he's in France and the Kindle Fire is still largely an American product, but he will try.

Hi guys,

I am the developer of DCS Manager.
I am happy to have a great article on SimHQ, thanks to BeachAV8R for his great review.

As TonyAAA says, he reports me that Kindle Fire users does not have access to the Android Market and are unable to download DCS Manager.
As he also says, I have take a look at the Amazon App Store and, with my poor english, I have not the time to read all the license agreement, and for what I know now is that I must pay yearly to be on the Amazon App Store, that my app will go through a validation process (yes more than the name took from Apple App Store, they also validate apps before publishing), I know also that the Amazon App Store is only available in the US ( I have been forced to create a false US identity to be able to download app from France )... so a lot of unknown with this market for the moment.

But I have a solution for you Kindle Fire users ! As tested with TonyAAA, you are able to install the app without the need of a market, and here's the link you are waiting for ! DCS Manager

You are free to share the link if you want. Maybe I will make a little page for the app... one day.

Hope you enjoy the app.

Thanks

Welcome to SimHQ Frédéric! I'm happy to see you are working with the community to widen the availability and perhaps build further on the excellent app. As a fan of DCS simulators your app is very nice. I used it just last night to look up the tower frequency for Guadata..

And guys..if you like the app, hit that Donate button and support our third party developers! thumbsup

Hi,

I have pushed an update on Google Play store so for Kindle users & others who don't have access to the Google play store, take the new DCSManager.apk.

Changelog :

- Correction in airports.
- Checklists are copied to the external storage under the "DCSManager" directory, so you can edit and share them if you want (primary file is "main.xml").
- Checkboxes states in checklists are saved until you press the menu button to deselect all checkboxes for the active checklist.

Hi. Is this still available? When I try the link it says: You don't have permission to access /dcsmanager/ on this server.
I have a Kindle Fire HD and I would really like to get my hands on this app.

Any help would be much appreciated Thanks.
