I just picked up a new weapon last week, a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. I always liked and wanted an AR-15, but being the price of them, it was never a realistic option. I have only run about 30 rounds through it so far, but what I shot was really nice, can't wait to get more time with it when it gets warmer out.

i've been considering something like that myself, the range nearby only allows rimfire rifles so that would be perfect. how are the sights and trigger on it?

The sights are good, it has the circle sight in the rear, and the three prong sight in the front. The rear sight have adjustments as well as the ability to remove them with just a screw. It has rails on the top as well, for pretty much and type of optics you could want. The trigger is a little heavy, but I'm not picky about that. You could buy a new trigger assembly for it, or change out the springs if you wanted too. Most of the accessories or aftermarket parts for the AR-15's will work on this as well.

Is that a civilian only version? Just wondering on the fire selector.

I'm thinking of getting a AR-15 also, it's a Sig 223 and cost $800 and the .22 verison is about $500 and you can shoot that all day.

I have one of those Smith and Wesson 22LR ARs too. It is the top gun in that AR picture that I posted. Nice little rifle. I got it because you can teach someone and let them shoot a whole bunch without it costing too much. The other good thing is you can teach someone on this and move them right up to a full AR since the controls are the same; don't have to retrain.

Good choice.

Love that rifle. Just cleaned my over the weekend. It is a joy to shoot. And like OG said, I taught my niece on that first then gave her the AR15 and she had no problems.
CW, it is like the AR in all ways, except there is no forward assist, recoil tube, or gas system.
Super easy to clean. Trigger is real nice.
24_Fan, get a 10-Round magazine for bench shooting!

I don't think they make military versions of .22LR range toys. neaner

I am thinking of getting one of these or a SIG-522 to replace my GSG-5.

I really enjoy the ar type of 22's. I was torn between the 15-22 and the sig 522, I had to go with the sig tho. My wife wants the 15-22 so I may have one soon smile. let us know how iot shoots.
