I have 2 MSI 6970 cards and for reasons i am not sure about i have started having problems with skyrim. I am getting weird visual artificats and the performance has gotten significanlty worse. Other than turning off the wait for vertical refresh settings in CCC, i amm not sure what settings to adjust, both for Crossfiree and in CCC. I tried the preset Skyrim Crossfire setting but the game wouldnt even load.

I havent made any changes to CCC so i am not sure what has caused these recent problems. Also, i have had to disable my secondary monitors whe running any game otherwise no video displays and the fans begin spinning really fast and loudly (as I posted about recently). not sure whats going on.

Install latest drivers and CAPs. Then disable Crossfire.

Decided to uninstall it completely and reinstall and follow the STEP guide:

I just tried some things (all over again) so as to be sure of what I am saying (as regards to my CrossFire/Eyefinity system).

Skyrim is CPU limited -- only uses one core well -- even Fallout 3 used 3 cores well at times. And, the CPU code was not optimum -- they say they fixed a bit in the last patch -- I couldn't tell.

Going to CrossFire can increase the max FPS (and hence average FPS). However, the slow parts (usually 20 to 35FPS) are still the same. There is an application that can increase the slow speeds up to 50 percent by changing some of the CPU code. However, since the last Skyrim patch, I've not been using it -- as frame rates are above 20 nearly always (if they don't hesitate/drop for a second or two, 20+ all the time is smooth to me).

With CrossFire enabled, I get "hesitations" as I run through new terrain or big cities (not a dead smooth picture). However, once a new area is loaded and I'm moving in a small area, all is well -- can "spin" the view all over very fast and it stays smooth. With Crossfire off, virtually all the hesitations disappear at all times. I've been running with CrossFire just so its there for other games. But, Skyrim seems to do better without it.

I am using the "biggest" available textures (both Bethesda's new packs plus some third party packs that overwrite those and some textures I made myself) -- things were usually smooth before I "overloaded" on textures even with CrossFire.

I use max in-game graphics settings in every case except zero AA (which is how I set up nearly all my games -- don't miss AA at my resolution and sitting distance). I have CCC set to default (i.e. use in-game settings). I don't try to "tweak" CCC for games as I am always happy with the in-game settings. I do tweak CCC colors for Video/movies -- that's about it.

FWIW, how my CrossFire/Eyefinity system is working. In summary, with CrossFire off, its smooth with every in-game setting maxed (except AA). No external tweaks. Do use a 3d party Eyefinity patch so all the menu screens are visible -- don't need it for running around in the game.

I cannot remember what CCC setting fixes the jitteriness/shake of objects when you approach them in smaller areas, where I think the frame rate is going above 60. I maxed "wait for vertical refresh" but that hasn't helped so far. I think that this is the problem, with frames way above 60, which makes nearby objects shake.
