got my first win at Richmond tonight in a 60 lapper fixed...

started 5th and somehow worked my way up to 3rd with 20 to go

passed the two car and I don't know what happened to the leader but when I got past him I had over a 2 1/2 sec lead

then someone crashed with 3 to go and I thought 'OH HELL' but we ended up finishing under caution

smile

It always cracks me up to hear the guys at Richmond complaining that the track hates them.

The secret to running Richmond is to get right on the yellow line in the corners, then slowly get on the gas. You do have to develop a sense for when to accelerate so you stay off the wall, but I have not hit the wall coming off the turns since I figured out this strategy.

Too many drivers try to overdrive Richmond. I go pretty slowly into the turns and come out fast. I think too many guys are overbraking, trying to control through the turn, then pushing the truck. Once your tires start to go you simply cannot get away with that.

Real easy into the turn, right on the stripe, and look ahead to the straightaway.

Here is another tip if you run a 120 lapper there. One tank of gas will not do it. I was running 2nd there the other day and starting running out of gas with about 5 to go. I had to ease up a bit, got passed by the 3rd car and sputtered across the finish line.

Congrats! I'm at 60 something, and still have a goose egg in the win column for official races. I know I can win as I've finished in the top 5 a lot. Someday....

I see a lot of people complaining about their truck is super tight, they hit the wall, etc. I started with the fixed and made a few changes and it drives awesome. I think most don't know how to adapt to the track, they think they can charge in and steal the spot when the truck in front slips off the yellow some. The official races have gotten really frustrating from the dive bombers, to the girl jokes. But I'm not quitting, I'm determined to get through the bumps.

Just be patient. I drive the fixed setup races and the one for Richmond is fine. Also the other night we ran a 60 lapper there with no cautions at all.

Gotta be careful when your tires get that worn. smile

I'm still getting myself dialed in to iracing. Mostly been practicing LRP in the mazdas. Best I've done so far is a few 101.5s. Still slow. Still not hitting the apexes the way I want to. :\

On the other hand, this feels more like driving a car than any sim I've done before. Not that I'm an expert on driving race cars, but I have driven my 400hp camaro on road courses and auto-x, so I'm not totally naive about high performance driving. wink

Gotta get the braking dialed in a bit better though. The response bugs me. It's like barely touching the brake locks 'em up. :\

Play with that braking response in the options, you should be able to sort it out.
