Posted this on my blog but wanted to share it here too...

iRacing’s 2012 Season 1 is in full swing and this weekend I’ve went back to my roots, so to speak, in the NASCAR iRacing Late Model Series. Week 1 is at Lanier Speedway in Georgia and I managed a 3rd place finish. Started 5th for the 65 lap event and by lap 9 I moved to 4th and lap 10 was in 3rd. Took the 2nd spot on lap 26 and held it until lap 45. Ondrej Svoboda got back by when I slipped up the track and I gave it my all trying to get the position back. He and I battled the entire race and I had been pretty hard on the tires. It was a very fun race and reminded me of the “old” days racing the NASCAR sims by Dave Kaemmer. My old team, BT Motorsports, won a few Team and Individual Championships from 2000 to 2003.

I’m going to stick with the Late Models for the entire season and will probably try to run the NASCAR iRacing SK Modified Series as it runs strictly short tracks also.

I ran the Grand Touring Cup race at Daytona today and let me tell you, it was pure boredom after the heart pounding Lanier race! I’m putting that series back on the shelf for a while though I’ll continue to run road races at places like SimHQ. I love road racing and I love sports cars of all kinds but nothing compares to short trackin’!!

Awesome! I decided to go with the National Series. Mostly short tracks so should be fun! I get Bristol tomorrow and I also joined a fixed truck league so I get Charlotte as well! My Sundays are going to be busy for a while! I am super excited about this season.

See you all on the track!

Week 1 Final Results:

Lanier National Speedway – Georgia

Division 5 Time Trials: 25th fastest time; 25th in point standings (52 drivers)

Division 6 Races: 3rd place finish; 39th in point standings (111 drivers)

Week 2 Race:

This week's short track racing is at South Boston Speedway in Virginia. I started 5th tonight and moved up when the 4th place car got loose on lap 3. He took the spot back on lap 8. I stayed within sight of the leaders the entire race. I passed for 4th place again on lap 35, not without a little fender rubbin'! On lap 52, I passed for 3rd and took off after 2nd place. Some intense racing trying to run down 2nd with the 4th place car dogging my every move! I managed to get within a car length but just didn't have enough to take the spot! Awesome and very intense racing again this week!

Next week; Irwindale Speedway in California!

Week 2 Final Results:

South Boston Speedway – Virginia

Division 5 Time Trials: 19th fastest time; 9th in point standings (91 drivers)

Division 6 Races: 3rd place finish; 18th in point standings (152 drivers)

Week 3 Race:

For the 3rd week in a row, I started 5th in my NASCAR iRacing Late Model Series race. By lap 10 I had made clean passes and worked my way to 3rd. On lap 12 I passed for 2nd. That same lap, I almost lost it by getting on the throttle too quick coming out of the turn. While gathering myself up, I fell back to 3rd. A few laps later, I was back in 2nd. I had no shot at catching the leader as he got off to a heck of a start while we were racing behind him. I checked out from the 3rd place car and held on to finish 2nd. Another fun race with lots of door to door racing! Toyota Speedway at Irwindale is not one of my favorite tracks, but I learned alot about getting around it this week.

Next week we race at New Smyrna in Florida for the first time ever! And it's a night race!!

I didn't realize just how much I was missing the short track racing. I've been a little surprised at the quality of the racing so far too. Been a lot of fun. I only get 1 race in per week, unless I have a bad one then I'll try to get in another one to make up for it. I'll probably keep running this series and see how far up I can get division wise then maybe go to the National Series. Good to hear that series has been fun!

I was going to run it but have drop off from it. This series is awesome and will be even better with the NTM and longer races and cautions!

Lowell you are hitting it hard and having a blast! Keep it man.

No NTM on the 09 car. There's a discussion in the forums about the 'old turn right to go fast' is back.
