So far I've found a lot of possibilities for the upgrade.

It is amazing though how many of these models needing a little tweaking. Missing cockpit files, VCG***.dat files, wonky transparencies, mis-aligned mapping on elements and so on and so on:

Looking good,

got the Hurri IIb FM ready in Spit09 slot and the Hurri IId in the Hurri slot(the IIc is already available in the Typhoon slot).

The gladiator is avalable in the P51D slot.

Edit Reason: We also got a Hurri IIa in the P38H and Hurri slot.

Ralf, how hard is it to move the planes to different slots using the folder system?

The question is: Why do we want that??

The plane slots already got basicly predefined long time ago in ECApannel.

At that time there was a max plane limitation, so it wasnt possible to have every FM in every slot, as result the people did agree to where which plane is needed.

I did use this in my EAWrp setups and also in the EAW1.28e planes folder.

Most skins are made for the slots fitting to ECApannel.

In theory we now can have as many planes as we want, so we could have every plane in every slot and for the FM/DMīs thats not that much a problem, cause their size is smal, but to have a multiskin P47D in 5 slots already make a size of 18MB + hangar screens etc.

The current Planes folder already got a size of 360MB, while the number of available planes and skins is very smal compared to what we had in OAWbasic and what is needed to cover all setups.

So we should keep the plane slot agreement and limit the different plane types to only a few slots(1-3), while for example not all Hurriīs must be in the Hurri slot. Currently the 5 different Hurri types cover 4 slots.

To answer your question: To reslot a FM need a few minutes, to reslot a skin depends to, if all files(also cockpit, hangar screen, tiny picture etc) are included.

I'm sure America and Italy were a bit more involved in the Med campaign. It wasn't a straight fight between British and German forces. wink

Using Jel's MOGPROG program it takes less than a minute to switch the file names for any plane model so it sounds like "six of one, half dozen of the other" as far as the effort it takes to move the planes around.

So we just have to come up with a group of planes that we're happy with and then define which slots we want them in.

You're right John, I need to add in a few more Allied planes.

Anyone care to skin an early P-38 for the desert?

Donīt forget the HiRes Tomahawk!
Other planes like the Hs 129 and the M.C. 202/205 would need some small 3dz improvements.
IMO the old EAW planeset is is not quite consistent because it#s sticking to the classic EAW set and mingles several campaign periods.
Especially the early biplane war between RA and RAF is underrepresentated especially in regard to SAW and our upcoming WW1 scenario.

Eh Fran, you must be taking too many pain meds. The first picture I posted is a Tomahawk. biggrin

Let's set the number of plane sets to three. One for each campaign in EAW. Of course that means fiddling with the frontlines since they weren't exactly static.

I'll need help in that area.

Some of the planes are reassigned so that more than one mark ca appear in the campaign. Moggy sent me the slot list and I'll post it this weekend.

Moving a skin is very easy. One needs to remane the skin to match the slot Hurricane IIC from phurrtex.pcx to psp14tex.pcx and then editing the 3dz to point to the new slot. And, the cockpit data needs to be moved.

Hi Ray - No sir, thatīs not a Tomahawk, but a Kittyhawk ;)- at least the Brits named it that way.
Iīm talking about the older P-40B and C, the more beautiful one IMO. Somebody was working at it afaik.

Oh, you want the one with the slimmer radiator, right?

I don't think we actually have one of those in inventory.

Someone would have to tweak the existing model or cajole CJ and Col. Gibbon to work on the newer one that's been on the back burner for a while now.

Yes, rarebird-master, that one. As far as I remember, Crashing Jack passed over his work to someone else - Colonel Gibbon?
It hasnīt surfaced any more since quite a long time... sigh
