We're back in Il-2 Cliffs of Dover, back in the cockpit of the gorgeous Spitfire, and back in the air over Hawkinge Aerodrome!

I queued up with an unknown buddy on the ATAG server and well, the rest is my imagination and this movie came out of it...

The Channel map just looks splendid in the early morning light, and there are some pretty cool moments in the vid, I think. As when I fly through a hail storm of bullet casings from the other Spitfire. Low-level aerobatics over the sumptuous landscape also looks great, with the tress, shadows, bump mapping and rich textures. Not you daddy's Russian steppes... smile

Find it at www.flightsimvids.com (first of the "fun vids"). As always it looks its best at 1080p and in fullscreen.
(If the link acts up, just press "youtube" in the lower right corner of the screen and you will go to the youtube page)

Hope you enjoy this video and pls post a comment if you feel like it: they are a big part of why I do my movies!

- This is also my entry into the Cliffs of Dover Movie Competition over at www.flightsimmachinima.com. Check out the site!

Glad you like it.

The dogfight isn't that crazy, I think. No turning the tables or anything, just two guys ganging up on a hapless 109 who seems pretty doomed from the beginning.

I actually noticed that, while playing CoD online. It only happens quite seldomly that a guy starts out at a disadvantage and then manages to turn the tables. And I guess that reflects historical reality quite well, actually. If you set up your bounce reasonably well and manage to damage the opponent in the first pass and then manage to not overshoot him, well then you can pretty much say that you have 95% won the engagement. Only a question of time before he will go in.

Just goes to show how crucial it is to keep your eyes peeled and how crucial it is to set up your bounce, which is exactly what I read in most WWII pilots' accounts. Long drawn-out dogfights with the advantage swinging from side to side just don't happen that often. I wish I could have more of those in my movies, because they'd be great entertainment, but between reasonably competent opponents it doesn't happen a lot...

Do any of you guys have other experiences?

Cool fight, good luck in the competition!

So it was that the war in the air began. Men rode upon the whirlwind that night and slew and fell like archangels. The sky rained heroes upon the astonished earth. Surely the last fights of mankind were the best. What was the heavy pounding of your Homeric swordsmen, what was the creaking charge of chariots, besides this swift rush, this crash, this giddy triumph, this headlong sweep to death?

H. G. Wells, 'The World Set Free,' 1914.
