Quote:
IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover is like a vegetarian burger patty: if you approach it expecting beef, you will be disappointed. But with realistic expectations, you might be pleasantly surprised. This game is, first and foremost, a flight simulator, and possesses many of the strengths and weaknesses characteristic of that highly technical genre of video game. As long as you don't expect an arcade-style dogfighter that allows you to jump right into trick-flying and dramatic aerial gunfights, you may be ready for the experience this title offers.

With a full-scale price tag of $49.99, and the immediate need for at least a joystick, playing Il-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover is a potentially expensive endeavor. But if you already possess the equipment and enjoy richly simulated historical aircraft, this game is right up your alley.

Review: 2.5/5 stars
Release Date: 2011
ESRB: Teen
Genre: Historical Combat Flight Simulator
Publisher: Ubisoft and 1C Company
Developer: 1C: Maddox Games
MSRP: $49.99
Format: Digital Download, DVD-ROM
Play Modes: Single-Player, Online Multiplayer

I was surprised to see it being reviewed in this months issue of "World War II" magazine.

Good find wheels - I'm not sure if I'm more surprised that there's a CloD review or that there's actually a World War II Magazine to do one! smile

I have been a subscriber to World War II magazine for at least 20 years. smile

It wasn't a great review by them but at least it wasn't a complete disaster either.

Cool, I'll check it out (seriously wouldn't mind a historical periodical, and I love reading about that era).

Btw, I don't know where they are up to in the magazine so spoiler tags:

Click to reveal..
Good guys win! wink

Yikes! It basically says the only good thing with this sim is the cockpits. I think the skins are good too. I also like the damage modelling. However, I agree with the opinion about the outdated looking graphics on the boring flat terrain and poor performance. Hope the new graphics engine changes this.

Hahaha re spoiler alert: A few years back I was in the rec room watching The History Channel's "Tank Battle on the Steppes" (or somesuch) when my daughter walked in, scooped up the channel changer, and said, "Newsflash, Dad. The Allies won!" as she switched over to MuchMusic. Kursk was a picnic compared to the battle to regain that channel changer! LOL

My character somehow got all twisted up. I was playing the mission where you have to infiltrate the Golden Glow Estate and do multiple things. When I was out burning beehives and fighting I just eventually ran away to view my success from a distance. I first noticed it when I squated down on a tree trunk. Coot..the squatter../simHQ/2011

My dad used to threaten me with "The pen may be mightier than the sword, but a Father's backhand trumps all!" I can't remember ever getting the remote from him, haha.

How times change. Grabbing the remote from my Dad was just Not Done. In my defence, 1) she took me by surprise, and 2) at the time she was on the varsity rowing team. I got the remote back, but "she was a worthy opponent....." LOL
