Hi Uriah,

I recently upgraded, but didn't want to spend a fortune and went for this:

- i5 2500K @4.3GHz with my old water cooling stuff (you'd be able to reuse your Koolance kit and nice PSU of course)
- Cheap Motherboard (I never crossfire/SLI) MSI USB3/SATA6 - $300 bundled with the i5

- ATI 6950 2GB, unlocked and overclocked as a 6970 - $210

- 128GB SSD SATA6 Gbps for OS and favourite games (I use something called 'Steammover' to move between my favs between the 2TB set and the SSD) - $120

- 8GB DDR31600 - $35

All together, and using my existing 3 monitors (eyefinity!), case and other bits cost around $700 USD to upgrade. Plus I had Win7 x64 already, which is needed for the 8GB ram.

I get good frames, plus of course the ability to play games other than COD nicely too smile. A lot of sims (DCS, RoF, GTR etc) work great in large resolutions across the 3 screens too, which makes it a nice upgrade.

Hope that helps, in that it's not cutting/bleeding edge but well good enough to burn through the current state of the sim. Obviously, a fair amount of fiddling knowledge and bargain hunting is included as well.

Edit: Should have said, up here in the Frozen North in Vancouver, I paid in Canadian Dollars (they're like proper dollars, but with a hint of maple syrup and very sticky tar oil).

Edit 2: For GPU, I find this useful, as in always try to buy the best single chip solution from the 3rd row whenever upgrading: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Win 7 64-bit, The 1Gb (roughly) left over for applications under the old 32 bit system isn't enough to prevent crashing, and sometimes doesn't even allow for the program to get into the actual application. You'll get stuck at the menu's.

SLI isn't really optimized yet, so you may not get as good of fps/graphics settings as you (think you) should. However, I'd think you could play decent (after upgrading the ram/os) on lower res/lowered graphic settings.

Hey Hune - long time!

Yep, NCIX boxing day binge, good call. Of course, before anyone warms to the newly found glow of my PC e-peen smugness, it's 9:10PM at night and I'm still at work - I'd say I've had about 10 hours playing time on the new PC in 2012 so far. (sobs)

I'd say you need pedals and Track IR to play "as it is meant to be played", so there are another 250 dollars on top...

I built an i5 2500K system recently - definitely the sweet spot right now.
This is also a 3D workstation

P8Z68 Deluxe Mobo
GTX 580 GPU (No ATI for me right now thanks)
16gb RAM
80gb SSD
2 TB physical drive.

For gaming a 2500K is all anyone needs IMHO.
If Audio and video editing and/or 3D software
like autocad is your thing then the 2600K is
the one for you. Anything after that is overkill.

This is what I think I need.
1, new mother board. Have not clue what to choose
2, new CPU, I guess i5 2500K
3, new memory, I guess 8GB DDR31600
4, new GPU, I guess GTX 580 have no clue other then 2gb
5, Windows 7 (do I need 64 bit?)

I am thinking the rest is just fine.
