Hi all

I've never been an rfactor user, so please understand I have no previous knowledge of the item.

What I'm looking for is actually OFFLINE gameplay against the AI, that will allow me to run a complete race weekend (practice, qualifying, race).

I understand the rF2 AI is pretty good so far. Does rF2 support correct race weekend formats for each class (i.e. will there be the correct amount of practice time, qualifying time...).

Or is this mostly dependent on mods?

I know it's meant for online racing but my limited time and flexible shedule made me give up MP a while ago.

It's all editable... Right down to the weather at the start, 25%, 50%, 75% and at the end of a session...

I really don't know what makes you think that rFactor/2 is meant for online racing?

It's just like any other racing sim/game you may find on the shelves - has an excellent SP/offline racing set-up but is also available to play online, that's all.

For my own reasons, I do perhaps 90% of my racing offline and 10% online - it's up to you.

So yes, the race weekends are authentic and entire and you can set the AI as strong as you like for your desired level of competitive racing. thumbsup

Thanks Jonny

I dunno, the feedback of version 1.0 here at boards always was "AI too weak, don't bother for offline". I'm happy to hear that is not the case.

Yeah Jonny has a great point there... This isn't iRacing, where if you don't pay your subscription bill you don't have a game to play...

This is rFactor 2, where the offline gameplay has been greatly improved after the wrath that was aimed at the first instalments AI...

I'd be very happy if that comes out such. Right now I run four different sims to get my racing fix. WRC and SBK won't be replaced I guess, but I don't mind one solid sim that will give me all the tarmac four-wheel racing I need.

Frankly, I have issues with the AI in every racing sim I've used from GTR2 to GTL to GPL to rF1 to Dirt to F1 (from both EA and CM) to Race. It's never the same issue, but it does usually boil down to "WTF?!?!" smile

So while I don't have rF2 yet, if it's comparable to rF1 at all (or better as some claim), you shouldn't have any issue with it.

Still Beta and still not 100%, although will there ever be such a thing as perfect AI ? I think it is not an easy thing to program and credit to the developers for having taken the effort to improve things.

I thought the AI in rf1 was not too bad although quality varies from mod to mod. In itself, rf1 was a pretty decent offline game...that is how I started in sim racing....offline and running against AI.

Putting things into perspective, I have ran in leagues and in competition against humans. Even there, you get a whole gamut of talents from the very accomplished to absolutely atrocious (crash happy weaving-prone drivers from Hell , worse than AI even...lol).

rf2 AI seems subjectively much better (at least to me) although I still get punted in the arse by belligerent AI more times than I care to comment. Try a standing start at Monaco in one of those 60s machines and you will see what I mean. They occasionally still have a tendency to punt you out of the way if you are somewhat slower negotiating a corner...or when you legally make a defensive block. But all in all, don't get me wrong. I'm not really complaining. I loved rf1 and rf2 Beta is heads and shoulders above in so many departments, it's hard to knock it. Besides, it's still Beta.

I will say one thing though. I never felt too much anxiety running Spa in rf1. For the most part, it's long, wide and none too scary and I don't get an extreme sense of speed unless i am doing 250+kph. It's no longer the case with rf2 Spa 1960. Heart in my throat most of the time. Those 60s cars are amazing to drive in 60s Spa, especially when the roads are shimmering wet with rain.
