Top is what you have, a machine shop can give you a perfect vertical slot, a little on either side of the current hole. Then you can adjust the center up and down as needed.

You can lengthen the screw holes yourself too, if you drill a series of holes below with a smaller drill bit.

Then keep increasing the size and do them again.

As you increase the size the holes connect.

Another way is to use a chisel to hit between the new hole and the old. But this metal is very tough.

jskibo-- Those might work for the side arms, in terms of lowering them both a bit. I don't know how they'd work for the center monitor because I need to raise that one if I leave the side monitors at their current height. Wouldn't the weight of the monitor make it impossible to raise upward in the vertical slot? The weight of the monitor would just pull the screws down to the bottom portion of the slot.

So basically, on the side arms that are currently too high, drill a hole directly below the four holes that are currently there, essentially vertically widening the hole length, thus lowering the side monitors?

No, the weight wouldn't pull it down if it was attached firmly.

You should check out the HardOCP Display forums--lots of discussion about various monitors, including the VE278Q. If I recall correctly, many of them might suffer from really noticeable backlight bleed issues, though don't take my word for it.

Well...when I first saw that picture I thought the extension didn't look long enough and the mounting looked uncomfortably high. Looks like that was erroneous perception of the picture.

Skipping the long thought process, I currently have a piece about 2.7" / 7cm (chosen because I figured that was the shortest I could "easily" tweak a ps2 extension cable for - shorter would take a bit more work) and think that's going to work just fine.

What I'm probably going to do, though, is weld the mounting arm to the top of the joystick plate, rather than the bottom, so I can get the stick base a bit lower than what you did.

I've modded my mount last week, I sawed off a few inches from the mounting pipe and now I can push the stick base into the seat more giving me 2 inches lower stick.

Don't know why I never tried this earlier!

I've inserted the wheel/yoke mount upside down with the intention of mounting my CH MFP there facing me vice being on a table top.

New monitor should arrive thursday or friday.

I was a bit skeptical about how my CH Combatstick (with it's wide base) would work out using the flight package center mount and CH propedals (with their narrowish spacing). I have the pedal tray on the lowest angle, without being on the floor, and found no "rubbing discomfort" issues while going from full left to full right rudder. Just enough clearance to be comfortable.

So Happy I found this thread and the Obutto. I have tried a few homemade PVC designs, and always ended up back at my old desk for 1 reason or another. This pit is realatively inexpensive, and with it's modular design, smallish foot print, and swiveling keyboard tray is exactly right for what I wanted.
And, I find the seat pretty comfortable too!

New Obutto peripheral. I but too $$$ for me to consider, but looks nice.

If so, win win. But, for now should anyone be considering buying an obtutto base cockpit, my day old one is availible at a lower then retail price.

Hold onto is my advice...put it back in the box, and into your garage or attic. If things progress w/ the missus on that front, six months or a year from now, you will be glad you held onto it. It really is pretty sweet for gaming. And I do office work in it, too, so it can double as an office chair (though it's less comfortable over longer stretches of time than a good office chair- doesn't really provide ergonomic support)
