Yea, The last thing I will ever do is put important files into a cloud-storage. I am fine with using dropbox to sync files between computers but not for storage.

I use Dropbox for non sensitive stuff usually just for flight sim docs on my iphone and some random non critical stuff I share between friends and family. I would never put anything sensitive online, at least not yet.

EDIT: and you should always have a back-up of a back-up, redundancy is key!

Can anyone confirm they received the extra storage and most importantly how they did it? In that article it talks of the new feature/bonus in a beta version of their software. It also mentions that you upload to dropbox directly when you plug in your camera or phone. I don't see how it works but want to give it try and get my extra space.

Interesting, unfortunately my internet is a bit too slow to try it out here. Uploading those required 500mb of photos would take quite a while with only 0.53 mbps upload speed

I find Dropbox very useful tool, though. I use it to back up my masters thesis (which is also backed up on an external HDD) and to exchange large files such with friends and family.

I sprung for the $20/yr 20gig Amazon cloud storage to backup my family photos in case I lose a hardrive or usb stick. Also give unlimited mp3 storage. Took me 6 days to upload all my mp3s but at least they are backed up now too.

Yeah thats cool and all Max but I'm more interested about Dropbox and the offer for additional storage as the original post implies. This is free and does what I need it to do. I have no need for a "pay cloud storage" service.

For storage of my sensitive emails I personally use Gmail Paper. By far the safest option, except if there is a fire, of course.

Guys- I haven't tried. Been too busy.

Works for me; I installed the 2.0.9 on my smartphone; started Dropbox, it automatically started to look for photos and asked permission to import. A few minutes later I had 500MB extra in my account.
