Glad someone wrote this. I've been wondering about the F4 phantom and why there isn't a combat study sim for this aircraft.

It may not have been the fastest, it may not be the most maneuverable but with all of it's different versions it was/is one of the most polyvalent air combat platforms to date.

I might have asked for the F14 a while back (for a Naval 2 seater) but the more I think about it, as a simulator experience, the F4 is a far superior choice.

It has been exposed to REAL combat history in MANY MANY engagements all over the world. It has been employed by both navy and airforce (permitting carrier operations). It has been used for nearly ALL types of combat roles and comes in both 2 seater and 1 seater configs. It was employed at a time when aerial combat still involved a great deal of dogfighting engagements whilst still providing missile use. Side winder's still required a rear aspect lock and were not guarantee kills. The F4 falcon sim, among the many reasons for its continued success, is such a multi-role aircraft that you can mix up all kinds of missions. Keeps it interesting. If DCS could pull it off at the A10 level... need I say more?

Just think of the fun if they mated it with a Mig-21 . . .

Well, we do already have a B-52 in the sim, too (not flyable, of course, and not quite the right version, but...eh...close enough!)

Similarly, the Su-17 is in the game (historically deployed starting in 1970)...

Yeah, there is definitely enough here that the community could knock together some seriously interesting missions with a DCS F-4 study model...

DCS:-F4 Phantom would be cool now that the Mig-21 is on the way.

Maybe I missed the significance of it but I never got the P51 addon.. like... WHY? I mean, where did that come from? Surely it would've made more sense to add-in a module like say, I don't know.. AH64D Apache Longbow???? Just sayin!

Long story short, the publisher is 'The Fighter Collection' out of Duxford, UK who own a number of historical aircraft including a P51 - http://www.fighter-collection.com/mg/tf-51.php

As they had good reference material I think it started as a side-project that then grew into a module to buy in the new DCS World. More background stuff here:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=84678

I believe ED do the DCS series off of as much reference material as they possibly can, so the Ka50 and A10C were through existing milsim contracts they had already. For a AH64D sim they'd either need more reference material than they have (i.e. parts of Longbow are classified still) plus a bigger step to do a two-person cockpit plus extensive ground radar sim work - something that could come in DCS but is new and I guess a bit of work to do smile.

Yes the p-51 was a suprise to me too. I thought they would stick with modern aircraft. Nothing against this great fighter though.

Before you get your hopes up too much about any specific aircraft, you may want to ensure it only has one seat . . .

Having the F4 would be awesome but if it has to be a single seat an F-8 or Mirage III would be great runner ups for dogfighting MiG-21's (parity wise). Also some limited mud moving is possible with either AC.
