Hello folks. I finally got a hard copy of this awhile back and have some time to get it installed. I'm a DCS Warthog greenhorn but not to sims. Would someone be so kind as to tell me what the latest patch is and where to get it? I looked over at ED but am a little confused as to what I need.

Also, didn't the latest patch come with the Nevada terrain? I'm looking forward to settling in and probably just starting basic flight training. Man, I went from A-10 Cuba and Silent Hunter A-10 Tank Killer II to this. Good memories and memories to come!

Thanks for any tips and starter information.

Do not get a patch, download the FULL INSTALL 1.1.1.1 from the DCS website, install it, and use your CD key from your physical copy.

Nevada has been taken out as of Beta 2, but is in the works to be released again soon.

As for help for new pilots, look at the Training and FAQ sub-forums above.

Welcome!

Well, it's true DL'ing the full version from the site takes some time, but it is better than patching anyway.

Just uninstall the copy you have now and reinstall from the DL'd version.

Uninstall, delete the install folder, and re-install from downloaded FULL INSTALL, preferrably in a differently-named folder (DCS A10C 1.1.1.1 for instance). This **might** use up one "activation," but shouldn't be a problem in the long run.

I would also recommend downloading via the .torrent file, or if you want to download each file separately via HTTP or FTP, use the .torrent file to "check" the completeness of the downloads.

Is there no patch I can just install? Seems extreme to uninstall it just to redownload it from their site.

You can also download the patches from ED's website here. Just be forewarned: the purists on the forums look down their noses at folks who bother with patches. wink

Take their advice Coot, un-install, de-frag your drive, download latest full version - you'll get better frame rates that way.

You can, but it'll be more of a pain. Plus the chances of things getting fouled up or not working... better save yourself the frustration and download the full install. One set of files to download, install once, and done. Not being snobby about it, but it is simply the most hassle-free way of getting up-to-date.

Basically there is no guarantee that the patch will work. It's best to re-download the complete installer each time a patch is released.

While I would do that if you've missed several patches, I'm not going to re-DL for just one patch that's a few MB in size vs a 5GB DL!
In his case, he's several behind so it makes sense to just start clean. But if you have 1.1.1, to re-DL 5GB for 1.1.1.1 seems absurd.

Lol, I guess I am very absurd then biggrin

Not only do I DL each new fresh install, I install to a new folder as well. Overkill maybe. But a 5GB download is what... 2-3 days of torrenting during the times I am on the PC and use it the least. Like maybe when I'm playing Skyrim or Shogun 2, I turn the torrent on, and that's 2-3 hours worth of downloading biggrin

I'm not one of those who wants to have the latest version of the game right the frikkin' hell NOW... I can wait a few days to download, then a few days more to re-config the new version to my old "settings," mostly editing .lua files and such.

I was reading my booklet and I don't think it will use one of my activations because I'm not changing the OS or hardware. Just reinstalling to the same computer.

Don't let them scare ya, Coot, I've patched up since I don't know when (1.1.0.7?) and I don't have any performance issues. Not sure what the heck the other guys are doing when they install patches - the ED team extensively tests the heck out of them. Sure, installing from scratch guarantees a clean install, but not everyone gets a kick out of a reinstall/reconfig process.

To each their own.

Hope to see you up in the virtual skies soon!

What Einstein said may be true, though I prefer going the extra few steps to make sure I get a trouble-free simming experience. I guess this is a habit left over from the Beta stages, wherein a patched game would sometimes display odd behavior but would not recur once a clean install was made.
