Yeah, I'm pretty sure Cpt. Farrell cannot have seen them, so I hope they can contribute to his skinning.

The photos and story seems to be reproduced from Luftwaffe im Focus that I used for reference. The article mentions both August and September 18:th as the date that he was shot down and I obviously missed that and went for September.

New skin today, this is my interpretation of Wilhelm Balthasars aircraft that he flew at least from May 1940 and the rest of the year, this is reflected in the fact that the JG1, later JG27, markings are still on the aircraft along with the new markings of III./JG3. The aircaft is often depicted with the gundeck and supercharger intake in RLM02 but that makes no sense to me, it seems much more likely that it's faded RLM04 applied in the same manner as many other III./JG3 aircraft that then has faded and flaked possibly due to the numerous repaints this aircraft had undergone earlier.

This photo shows the Bf 109 E-4 "Weiß 13", flown by Leutnant Walter Blume of 7.Staffel. Parts of the engine cover has been removed, while the former looks at the closing hole shot machine guns that have been placed on the ground. This indicates that the aircraft is exposed to damage in battle, and a technician is seen to record how severe the damage is.

Hello! Just for general information these pictures we not taken in Caffiers (but Caffiers was indeed the home base of this aircraft). "Luftwaffe im Focus" magazine got it wrong here. The airfield is actually Calais-Marck, and it could be that the Klemm in the background was used by the technical officer to commute from Caffiers to attend to the damaged Lt Blume aircraft as its pilot could not do it that far?...
The hangar we see in the photo is a typical pre-war French hangar of which one example existed in Calais (as well as in Dunkerque Mardyck). Caffiers was not an airfield before the German take over (and for good reason: you should see the place! There was only one possible safe landing direction, in Caffiers...), and had a typical German pre-built "Werkhalle" installed in 1940.
Indeed Calais was enormously easier and safer to use in an emergency than Caffiers...

Yes, that was indeed interesting JVM. I have pretty much finished the movie with White 13, but in my vid it will be flying out of Abbeville... - If it isn't historically correct, then we can just say that Blume made a stop-over there for a social visit! smile

Finally got around to uploading my first Hurricanes that I've been working on for some time. Not as fun to work on as the 109's as the panellines and rivets are heavy and kind of weathered in a way that can't be turned off. Still, I love the Hurricane and it's workhorse role in the Battle of Britain so hopeully I'll make some more soon!
