Good luck with that.

You should try Prepar 3D instead. This is the closest you will get to a flightsim in MSFS' spirit.
Heck you can apparently even port over most of your add-ons!

Prepar 3D is an option, I suppose. But why use it instead of FSX? Isn't the same sim? Also, I don't like the idea of paying a monthly fee to game.

Only way to find out is to wait for final release hmmm?

To be fair,I'm stuck on the lack of third party support, and the removal of the entire planet.

From the way the guys at ORBX are talking, the Prepar3d team is basically working on FS11 as we speak. Among their improvements will be shuffling a lot of the workload to GPU's, for example.

As far as monthly fee? I figure $120 a year is a fair price if Lockheed continues to put their money where MS's mouth was. I'd have happily been paying $10 a month for FSX all these years if there were constant improvements being made to the sim the entire time. I think it's healthy for the industry to start charging premium prices for premium content.

BTW, regading multiple copies, don't you only get three serial number activations per copy?

No. You can activate it as often as you want to, but after three or four internet activations, you'll have to call MS to get your activation code. Just like Windows.

I installed my copy of FSX at least twice onto my laptop before I bought my desktop, and I know I've installed/reinstalled onto the desktop system at least three times including once after I had to replace my harddrive and more recently when I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and I felt it was a good time to rebuild FSX from scratch. That's five times that I can remember and I have never had to call Microsoft.

You can get a download version of FSX Gold from Windows Live for 15 bucks right now. I bought it the other night. Presumably, there’s no reason to keep backups of discs if you can always just re-download if you need to reinstall.

I was hoping I would get a file that I could back-up (just in case) when I downloaded, but apparently it’s a “install me now or just re-download me later” file (actually it looked to be about 30 archive files, I guess I could have tried backing all of them up…).

Does anyone know (legally) how long a game I purchased as download only has to remain available to me to re-download?
