Hi all,

I put up a new movie, and this time it is a bit more useful than the fun vids I've made so far. It is my best attempt at a Spitfire Mk. I Tutorial movie.

Find the movie on my web site: www.flightsimvids.com

There is a LOT more work to making a tutorial video than to my usual vids for pure amusement, so I hope you will appreciate the effort! (Even if perhaps not the result...)

If you haven't enjoyed the superb fun that is flying with Complex Engine Management in Il-2 CoD maybe now is the time!

- The Spitfire modelled in CoD really gives a tremendous feeling of raw power wrapped inside a beautiful, streamlined aeroplane. When you master it (I'm still not quite there) you will have a great feeling of the sky belonging to you, zooming around effortlessly at the flick of a wrist and the slight push of a lever. There is heft and inertia to the plane, and it can be quite daunting to take it up, but it DOES help that one's behind is not on the line, and that the hierarchy won't have that behind served on a platter if you muck up...

I can only imagine the excitement and fear that must have gripped young recruits back then, 70-odd years ago, when they first walked out to a parked Spitfire before taking her up. Actually, I can imagine it much better now that I have flown it in CoD.

Big thanks go to 2GvSAP_Flea, who helped me a lot with the video, and whose super-impressive "Il-2 CoD Aircraft Operations Checklist" can be found on my web site as well. Also thanks to jf1981 (1C forums), whose comments and quick guide helped a lot too. I made my own quick guide (partly based on Flea's pdf and jf1981's document) and linked it at the web site too, for those who want to just jump into the Spit and get her into the air. And maybe even land...

Pls comment if you think I should correct some things in the movie, or well, if you just feel like it...

ALSO, PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY NEXT VIDEO IF YOU CAN! See here:

Interesting read, relates to the video, especially where the pilot talks about first flights in the Spit.

Hvad lejer I i sneen? - Snescootere eller kælke? wink

But yes, getting out in the snow is definitely more fun than staying inside watching videos! I went out to the frozen lakes at the Tervuren palace near Brussels this weekend..

Fantastic, it decides me on getting this sim. I used to live on the Isle of Wight and would go swimming on that beach you see, the sandy inlet, at Bembridge. The realism of this amazes me.

So it looks pretty close to reality? Check out my Hurri night intercept video, that is from Bembridge as well.

Make sure you have a computer that can run it!

I've just watched this in its entirety Freycinet. It's bloody wonderful!
I really look forward to more of this type of 'training video' and then who knows,I may bring my Spitfire out of retirement biggrin

My only criticism (and it has nothing to do with your flying or your video) is that the external view sounds are not quite right.
I really want to hear that Merlin growl as it flies past.
Can that be modded do you know?

I don't know about modding, sorry. Capturing and youtubeification of a video does bring down the oomph of in-game sounds quite a lot.

Frey this is the sort of training video that is very badly missed in CLOD, Luthier should give you a job!

I totally agree. The development team has been absolutely crap at documentation and training aids. Both of which are crucial. And the weird thing is that they haven't leveraged all the community support they could get in this aspect.

I'd be happy to do some vids like this on a Battle of Moscow alpha build, if they want me to... smile

I see only a short segment of the video before cutting out, might be because I'm at work, but this is unusual. I do want to see this, we need more how tos.

I had problems with Frey's link on his website. It didn't buffer properly and would load each segment separately.
I just googled the title and got the proper youtube and could watch/buffer it properly.

Even easier, you can just click the youtube link in the lower right corner, that'll take you to the youtube page.

I think it might have something to do with older browsers and how they deal with the youtube embed. Can I ask you guys if you have an old browser? Or which one you use?

Great video Frey,

I didn't know I was suppose to switch to course prop when cruising. I was just keeping it in fine. Good stuff to know thank you.

Dumb question. Does fine pitch take a bigger bite out of the air or does course pitch do that?

I always keep my system up to date. It did that segmenting thing with Chrome so I switched over to Firefox 10 and still the same thing. Watching it from youtube worked perfectly.

Sorry, your question flew under my radar. Coarse takes big bites, fine cuts the air into little salami slices... smile
