Hi folks.

I'm new to ROF and I was wondering, is there any way, setting, voodoo magic, that I can perform to stop the freaking rotation of backgrounds in the various screen where they appear. I find them really annoying and it's starting to get to my nerves really. pitchafit

Thanks for your time!

This happens to me all the time! How to fix:

Reduce throttle to idle or blip your engine off.

Stick neutral.

Rudder opposite of the freaking rotation of the background.

You may need a little forward stick.

As the freaking rotation slows and stops, bring the rudder to neutral and gently bring the stick back. Pulling the stick back too fast will cause the freaking rotation to begin again, often in the opposite direction.

Apply power again when level.

A little misunderstanding here, I don't mean the plane, not when I'm in flight. What I mean is the kind of museum that you have as a background. Like this:

I find it really annoying, specially when you have to read something, like in the "Reference" screen, I try to read the text but that spinning Spad XIII in the background is a pain. smile

Thank all for the replies.

I hate it as well. The old version with the hanger (which was a better screen anyways) had a way you could kill it and replace it with a non 3d screen. I dont think you can with this version though.

Yes, thanks Dart. It will become handy with that Dr1 that likes to depart so easy... biggrin

Silly thing to complain about.
How much time do you spend on those screens?

I have to agree with Gambit21, this is not a huge issue and while it does indeed annoy you and perhaps a few others, this is not something to sound so angry about.

It gives me motion sickness every time I have to do anything with the menu then I have to wait on the mission map screen for 10 minutes before I can even play. Sometimes by the time I get into the game I am so screwed up that I just shut it down and do something else.

So yes... it is a serious issue and there should be an option if not to disable the whole 3d menu screen to at least top it from moving (like you have in the hanger view where you manually rotate it.)

Same here, not so much as not to be able to play, but yes, it goes beyond the "annoyance" point.

To me, the problem is that, since I'm new to the game, I like to go exploring, go to different screens, read the reference about each aircraft, setup things and stuff. All that with an aircraft spinning in the background is just too much.

I'm not particularly angry about it, startrekmike, it might sound like I am, but I'm not. It's just that the whole thing kind of ruins a part of the game for me, it really does. I'm quite sensitive to motion sickness, the whole game actually makes my sick, I can't play for more than an hour before taking a (24 hs) break. I can understand that, planes are planes, what you gonna do... but the menus too? You had to make my life harder with a menu? biggrin

Nonetheless, with or without motion sickness, I find it quite annoying and distractive, yes.

No, it takes about 20 seconds to load but then I have to wait 10 minutes for the motion sickness to stop. I also have the same problem with the chat buffer in MP. Oh great make it see through so the background is constantly moving when I am trying to read small text. Uhhhhg. Just give me a small window in the bottom left that has a solid background and is wide enough that you can read more than 2 words per line.

Roger that.

Im curious-how do you fly and engage in dogfights without getting sick? I would think that would REALLY mess you up!

I am completely fine with that stuff. I have dyslexia which means I use a different part of my brain to read and for whatever reason when I read text there cant be anything moving near it. Subtitled movies (unless they have a black background for the text) and most commercials make me sick as well. Mostly though it is just tvs and computers that cause problems since I can read text on glass just fine (probably a depth of field issue or something).

I know other people with the same problems (caused by whatever reason) who cant read text if there is something moving near it without getting sick. So I know I am not in this boat alone.

Hmmm...I think you can read about the planes in the "Configure Aircraft" section without the spinning planes. It may not be called that but I am talking about the screen where you load your aircraft with fuel and ammo before a flight. The plane isn't spining there and you can read info on the selected aircraft. Just click the far right tab on the mini menu.

I may be mistaken, but I think that the plane information is the same as on the RoF website (where you go to purchase aircraft). No spinning plane there either.

Yep, there are several places to read information, the thing is, I want to read it in the game! It helps a log with the immersion... man, I spent hours in RB3D just fooling around and not flying. And for the record, is not only text with a semi-transparent background that bothers me, even the blackboard where you see the missions in the campaign, even there, I get to see the plane in the background. It annoys me ssssuuuch much, its a psychological ting. smile
