I think the point Hedgehog was making was that time compression is unrealistic and thus not used by people who enjoy realism. :p

Lately, I have found the no cockpit forward view works even better than the wideview. It appears that the updating that goes on in the radar, HSI, and other instruments might somehow interfere with time compression.

Whether it is seen as realistic or not, time compression helps some missions by allowing them to be flown in less than real time. It is a game, and a number of its systems are not real world realistic, either, and time compression is consistent with that. While I use it, I do so sparingly.
