Interesting! I never realised there was such a crossover with the modelling team. Looking forward to flying the Halb.

Saqson and the rest of his group have a great reputation stemming from IL2. Glad to see them on board with this project. smile

Oh man...I simply can't wait! I'm glad to hear of the new team's addition as well. I've spent many hours flying in their planes over the years. It's also interesting that there seems to be hint here that Project Galba is cancelled (not surprising, given CloD's issues TBH).

Cheers,

diversifying the project team should have positive effects in the long run. Looks like a good sign that regular development may speed up if regular income matches.

Woo hoo!! I'm thinking it won't be long until it's released now. smile I'm still curious what the next plane will be, though. My top votes are the Be2, Fe2b, Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter, and the Albatros C Series. The late-mid war aircraft are covered pretty well, but there's almost no early-war 2-seaters. Personally, I'd love to get a good Be2 to line up in the sights of my Fokker. biggrin Not whining, just wishful thinking. Great job, and keep it up! thumbsup

Any of those would be wonderful, particularly the Be2, followed by the Albatros C. I can think of a number of early war aircraft that would be nice to have and why else would they bother with the hassle of coding that pistol stuff if we weren't going to get a rifle at some point? biggrin I have a feeling, though, that we will get the Snipe before any more two seaters.

This one, though, this is a beaut. The quality of each of the last few aircraft has been astoundingly high and this is no exception.

I can't help being worried reading between the lines for the future plans to keep ROF in the WW1 theater. Is it possible the anouncement will be a shift of focus to the Korean theater or am I paranoid?
Either way I guess I may at worst have to get interested in another period of aerial warfare. : )

Love the Halberstadt.

Interesting. First time I've heard about it. A Korean war sim would certainly be something to try but I'm personally happier if they stick to WW1. Cheers.

Yeah. As I understand it, the Maddox team were working on CloD with Ilya's team from Pacific Fighters working on the Korea sim. When Oleg left CloD development Ilya took over, and the Korea sim hit the back burner/bin. It's a shame for all that work to go to waste, but that's games development I suppose…

I'm assuming a lot of this "new" team worked on PF and the Korea sim. As others have said, hopefully this will up the pace of ROF development.

We all have aour favorites (for me its WWII PTO/CBI), and as much as we'd like every sim to concentrate exclusively one our favorite theater, there does come a point of dimishing returns; ROF has room to improve, but it will never be quite "perfect," or have every plane. There is still definately some more room to expand in WWI, but at some point, 777 going to have to move beyond WWI, or they will end up competing with themselves.

It would require substantial recoding to produce an optimised later war sim from RoF though...

My personal pick would be the 1930s - perhaps a fictional campaign (although the SCW or Kalkin at possibilities).
I'd love to fly a Tupolev ANT-7 / R-6 someday (Fighter patterned on the TB-1). I also find it quite interesting how the TB series almost outmatched fighters prior to the introduction of cannons around 1935 (try attacking one in a Gladiator in Il-2)...

Posted this in the blog comments, but I'm not sure anybody reads that from the dev team, but it looks like the pilot is seated way to high in the cockpit. It looks lime he is almost eye-level with the wing.

Maybe slightly high but not by much. Check out the pic in this thread, bear in mind that the pilot seems to be leaning forward towards the instruments when the pic was taken. Not everone's the same height.

I have no idea what that next step is going to be, and it may still be years down the road (though obviously, it has to be something after WWI). I really think a fantasy setting would be a tough sell . .. maybe they could pull of Spanish Civil War, but most people (including myself) are going to want some historical context.

It was meant to be based on the CLOD engine, not the IL2.

Check this link out for RRG Studios which is Ilya's old group: http://web.archive.org/web/20090307181219/http://www.rrgstudios.com/EN_02_08_UnnamedTitle.shtml

: ) think you are being paranoid - it's not likely where things are heading, in fact, it's unlikely at this stage it's moving away from WWI at all.

There's been many changes of the ROF team since it's inception and a new owner. Much of the 3d work has been done externally for some time now so I wouldn't worry too much.

Remember Ilya and Jason are friends and I'm sure where they know where talent is they point each other in the right direction (as long as it doesn't detract from their own projects).

A Zeppelin would be a masterstroke.

Oh, and the development team should give us the Eastern front, where Richthofen started his career and where Sikorski bombers plied the skies!

- Barring that, Italy - Austro-Hungary would do just fine. Future New York mayor Fiorello LaGuardia going up against the Austrians in Caproni bombers!

Sorry, but too much whisky conjures up images of Forgotten Battles... - I'll be quiet now... wink

I think a Zeppelin would be a dead-end . . . Flying would be boring as heck for all but a few, and night patrols to intercept them over England would not be that much more intersting for most after the novelty wore off.

'Course, that said, if 777 made one, I'd probably still buy it.

AI zeppelins would make for some amazing missions and I know of several games who had zeppelins and all of them were played heavily in mp.

Anything early war is much more needed than yet another new late war fighter like the Snipe, Siemens Schuckert, etc. Of course the online dogfight crowd heavily disagrees as their only interest lies in the introduction of the next uber late fighter that is "so badly needed" even though it does not add in any significant amount to the overall gameplay and the fact that the late war part is pretty well covered already.

Sadly its the same situation in almost every other combat sim, people just want their uber fighters. Its a miracle that noone has been crying for a Mustang yet on the Cliffs of Dover forums.

We need a proper early war set of planes to match the (at the moment) largely useless Eindecker and DH.2! Any "crap" plane gets my vote any day, any time.

I have already stated that I wish they would flesh out the early war and add some new maps. Personally I wish they would just release some map making tools and let the community kick out some great maps... but I guess that would hurt their pay for content model.

Still I would love a good map that featured some mountains or hills of significants. I would even be ok with a non-historic map that had a wide variety of terrain types like some mountains, hills beaches and an ocean.

thumbsup +1

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I would much rather see some early-war two-seaters, or even a Morane Bullet, Morane, L, etc.

I've been following this game since I first saw its initial development back when it was Knights of the Sky, and from the start, the game was written to cover only 1917-1918. The late war has already been covered thoroughly enough (with some missing aircraft... I actually would like to see a good Siemens Schuckert, though, so +1 for that).

However, personally, the early-war aircraft are a far bigger priority. There's nothing worse than taking off in an Eindecker for an alert patrol only to go chasing an Re8 you can't even catch, let alone shoot down. And it's the same for the DH2 trying to catch a DFW.

Now that the sim has introduced the early-war stuff, I think it would be too much of a tease to leave us with the set of planes we have now, missing aircraft we need, while later-war aircraft, that are more like bonuses, are added.

Of course, I have nothing against the Cl.II. I'm very excited for its release! smile

Again, I'm not whining, and I don't mean to rant. It's just my two cent's worth. wink

The Eindecker is pretty well matched to the R.E.8, historically, isn't it?

Not really. The R.E.8 was coming into service in November 1916 (52 Squadron). The E.III was out of service or almost out of service by that time.

This.

New map will be required (mounatinous terrain of the italian front)

for A-H we need:
Hansa-Brandenburg C.I (early & late versions)
Hansa-Brandenburg D.I (early & late versions)
Phoenix D.I (if H-B D.I(late) is not included - they are very similar, although Phoenix model is superior)
Aviatik-Berg D.I
Oeffag-Albatros D.III
Phoenix C.I or UFAG C.I
Lohner E if seaplanes can be supported.

for Italy we need:
Ansaldo S.V.A.5
S.I.A 7 & 9 (SIA7 was apparently used by the Americans as well)
Pomilio PE
Hanriot HD.1
Caproni Ca.44 or 46
Macchi M5 if seaplanes are supported

Cheers,

Little-known fact: the first bombers in use by US army air forces
were Italian-produced Caproni bombers.

Continue working on this period can if known.

There is so much still has to develop the WWI, especially the early years (1914.1915, 1916 ...)

Thank you for the quality of your work.

While I would like more maps and improvements to the career mode, my preference is more early-war planes as well. Single or dual seaters, the period is just under-represented in ROF right now.
You'd think the Morane Bullet would be easy since it's not a big departure from the E III, but I'm not picky. I just want a career that spans the war to have some depth at the beginning of the war.

Ah, to have a Caproni 3-winged beast!

Or the Russian Ilya giant bombers!

My dreams in a modern WWI sim...
