eagle dynamics owns a p-51. Actually to be technically correct, "The Fighter Collection" owns both ED and a P-51, among many other aircraft. Nate

They do? I thought they acted as producers/publishers.

They do? I thought they acted as producers/publishers. AFAIK yes TFC is the parent company. Nate

Hey thanks for the nice comments on my post guys, Greyghost and komemiute, It says i just joined here but I have actually been on SimHQ since - I can't even remember. Used to troll Combatsim and here. I really do love sims, combat mostly. And, yeah, I work for Ubisoft, but not on sims or anything core and military!!! I am from L.A. been up here in Quebec for 2 years working on games i would never play... ugh. It's funny, I gues a lot of people would assume I am pleased to be working for a big publisher and such, in reality I wish i was working on a combat sim of some sort in some small company. Anyway - the thread is about P-51 and I will repeat just for the record: This move makes it MORE likely you will get the warbird you want, not less. Happy trails gents! Perc.

Sorry for cutting in... modern theme, is that a new map? No it means that they haven't given up on creating the modern day battlefield by making the P-51. We're still getting our US fast jet, Nevada, human JTAC in CA, FC3. I got it, thankyou.

The problem with this concept of "parallel development" is that they're just doing the plane. For fans of FSX and X-Plane, taking it up in free flight I'm sure will be a blast. For those of us who enjoy flying the planes in era-specific combat, not so much. The current terrain is not "timeless", it's just not specific other than definitely being post-war. A new set of ground vehicles, civilian vehicles, and buildings would be needed to make it look like it was pre-1960 or so. I also (without having actually researched the area) get the feeling the roads and cities would look different...fewer paved roads, more unpaved, cities generally smaller, etc. However, that's largely irrelevant. Even the civilian vehicles are, as they'd just be there to be there, like they are now. Atmospheric only.
So if ED gets some 3rd party peeps to make T-34s, PzIIIs, halftracks, kubelwagons, and the like, great! AI 109s, 190s, MiGs, Yaks? Great! Without those...well you'll have a Mustang sim, but not a WWII sim featuring a Mustang.

I get it 100% its just a plane that if we like are able to purchase and fly in a DCS environment. The created it as an in house demonstration tool and decided to make it a retail product for us to enjoy (if we'd like to). Its a bonus for both ED (who can make some money off an internal product) and we the consumers who get a study sim quality Mustang to fly in. I mean when a Spitfire add-on is sold for FSX you'll likely fly it in a modern environment and won't even be able to blow stuff up.
I'm ok with the Mustang idea and look forward to it.

It's already been said over at the ED forums that this initial plane will be the test phase to gauge response to the Legendary Aircraft concept. If it proves popular we may get that dedicated WW2 scenario. The problem with this concept of "parallel development" is that they're just doing the plane. For fans of FSX and X-Plane, taking it up in free flight I'm sure will be a blast. For those of us who enjoy flying the planes in era-specific combat, not so much.
