Date: Saturday, February 25, 2012 Time: 1500 hours Eastern Car: Class A Impala Track: Daytona Oval Format: 100 laps Setups: open
Practice Session Date: Saturday, February 18 Time: 1300 to 1900 hours Eastern
UPDATE: The practice server has been scheduled, date and time above. The race has been scheduled. Server starts at 2 PM Eastern for a 1 hour warm-up, followed by 4 laps to qualify, immediately followed by a rolling start 100 lap race. Setups are open, but in keeping with SimHQ's idea to keep people racing, fast tows have been enabled, again.
Special notes: We should have the new Daytona "smooth" track by then, if so we will use that, if not we will use the old. The recent update has improved drafting... so learning it is key... what I recommend during the practice session, every hour on the hour, all come in to the pits and exit together for pack racing practice. Also... how this should work... find your average alone time with your setup and compare that to other racers, then those are the ones you might want to hook up with... on the new track, 2 will be faster then 1...
Good luck, invite your friends... lets get a full field of 43.
BTW, so i don't forget... the race password is oval, it's passworded just to keep out the "hey I'll join that one" crowd.
Sign-up now! SimHQ nickname / iRacing name / car number

Rhino, I'm sure you know this but make sure you remove the car number from the paint. iRacing stamps the number on top the car, so it won't look right with your number and the iRacing stamp.
I think I might be able to join in on the fun as it looks like I'm available after approx 2.30 pm Eastern, so please include me in the line-up. Car no. 99 please.

What other cars? Are there other cars in rFactor 2 than the 1960's???
Don't forget, track update comes out this TUESDAY... Saturday is a practice, and the following Saturday the race.
Invite your friends, the more full field we have the better the racing.

yes you would have to buy it, but still plenty of time to learn... Daytona, especially smooth Daytona coming tomorrow is easy... pedal to the medal all the way around... the key to winning is hooking up with a buddy, drafting together, good setup, and good luck avoiding the big one.
you got 2 weeks, plenty of time.

What is everyone able to get in the draft? I just had a race where I was able to run a 45.1 . Really like that you can't stay glued to someones rear without overheating after a few laps. LOVE the new track!

Yeah I am hoping to get a bit more too. 13 will be boring but still fun.
Lowell, I tested the new track last night. It was amazing so damn smooth and fast! It is really easy to hold your line now.

Brett as for setups the Fixed set is pretty good. Daytona isnt as dependant on set ups.

yep... invite your friends... the bigger the field the better the racing.
also remember, thou it's not very SimHQ'is... fast tows are on... so if you crash out, you can still get back in to racing within a reasonable amount of time.
Practice tomorrow at 1 Eastern, I'll be a little late... but goes on till 7... Also don't forget your uploads to the "SimHQ Official" paint list, and work on a smooth line, thats key.

Hooked up with the 49 car in this vid and was able to put down a 44.883. Pretty darn quick!
Damn pretty quick man. I saw a 44.198 in one of the practice session. I think if you got hooked up just right someone might pull a 43.9! That would be a hell of a last lap.

I've been able to get down to a 44.6 and it was the damnedest thing - we had 4 cars doing the bumper to bumper for a whole lap. I maxed out I think at around 203. Crazy! Whatever pair can master the 2 car tango and do the switches at the appropriate times are going to be hard to beat in this one.
I'm looking forward to my debut into the world of restrictor plate racing.....should be an educational experience. The most difficult part will be resisting the urge to take the left onto the road course :-)
ya, after doing the Daytona Road all week, everytime i drive by the busstop, i want to take it.

Next one is back on the Road at Sebring... next oval will be the Indy 100... thats should be interesting/fun too.
Thanks for the participation and congrats to Panther for the win.

I hate to be "that guy", but I really truly believe that I won that race. If there's a wreck that forces cars to pit road in a real race, there's almost never a penalty, especially if doing so was in no way malicious or "gaining an advantage". Here it is right from the iRacing "Sporting Code":
"13.2.2 . Black Flags 13.3 .1.1. In-Race official MAY clear black flags that are erroneously given to a competitor during the race under certain conditions: 13.3.1 .1.1. Unsafe Pit Entry for Avoiding or Involvement in a Multicar Incident: If a driver uses pit lane under race conditions to avoid an accident and is issued this penalty. The driver must inform the officials that he/she received this penalty for the actions stated and the official will review the incident."
You all can judge it the way you want to, its not like we're racing for anything. I had fun regardless of the outcome.

LOL If my game wouldn't have crashed I would have won!!!! J/K man.
I agree they need to redo there code to where if you hit the pits not at the entrance and dont pit its all good. Not sure if this is possible but who knows.
Congrats to Panther and everyone else for what I guess was a fun race LOL!
See you all at Sebring!

Its good to get this clarified in case a wild ending like that happens again.
I think we're under Chapter 6, not Chapter 13.
Chapter 13 is Pro and WDC events, which is not what our Fun series runs under. I looked it up, and I think Chapter 6 is where we're at because of the hosting format (as opposed to an official iRacing event).
6.8.1. Black Flag Rules
6.8.1.1. Race Control may assess three types of Black Flag Penalties:
6.8.1.2. Stop-and-Go – requires the penalized driver to return to his/her pit box and come to a complete stop inside the box before rejoining the race.
6.8.1.3. Stop-and-Hold – requires the penalized driver to return to his/her pit box and come to a complete stop inside the box. Race Control will then hold the driver for a specific duration of time before releasing him/her to rejoin the race.
6.8.1.4. Disqualification -- Upon disqualification, a driver will have 30 seconds to pull off of the racing line and exit the session, after which Race Control will automatically remove the disqualified driver. Race Control will immediately remove from the session any driver disqualified for reckless driving.
6.8.1.5. If a driver is assessed a black flag penalty by Race Control in any session, he/she must return to pits to serve the penalty. Although the driver’s lap count will continue uninterrupted, official lap times will not be recorded until the driver has served his/her penalty.
6.8.1.6. The driver may not use the Enter/Exit/Tow Car control (also known as “Reset”) to return to the pits to serve a Black Flag penalty during a Race session. (Using Enter/Exit/Tow Car to clear Black Flags is allowed as a convenience only in Testing, Practice, Qualifying and Time Trials).
6.8.1.7. Failure to return to the pits and serve a black flag penalty within 4 laps of notification from Race Control will result in disqualification.

Anyone care to share the replay? I guess mine either didn't save or I'm such a newb at iRacing I didn't know that I had to turn on the autosave feature?
Good video's Magnum. I did notice in the video that you had the mirror set to a fairly high FOV. I originally had it set like that but then set it based on my forward FOV and found it gave me a much better perception of my surroundings. The biggest difference being is that cars that were only 0.5 sec behind didn't feel like they were a mile away. I ended up liking the combination of the realistic FOV and spotter better than the distorted FOV. I realize it is definitely more of a personal preference (and the wider FOV is probably more accurate representation of an actual stock car mirror) but I just thought I would mention it as something worth trying
actually my settings are just default when it comes to that... no clue how to change the mirrors but I did read that the mirror images are shown at a different refresh rate and why they seem wierd... but like I said I don't know how to change them.
