Hi Guys.
It might be a good idea for everyone to post your system specs, and how you get EAW to run on your rig.
I recon this info would be of great help to all Newbies, as they could check this thread, for a similar rig to their's, and read what solution worked for each different machine.
Here is my rig specs:
System: Dell Dimension 5000 Processor 3.0GHz Pentium 4 3Gig RAM ATI Radeon X1050 128MB
Win XP Pro SP3 Driver Packaging Version 8.593.100-100210a-095952E-ATI Catalyst™ Version 10.2 DX9.0c EAW 1.28e runs with: D3D Normal mode 1280x1024. 24bit colour, 512x512 graphics, No Windower
Glide With Zeckensacks Glide Wrapper, 8bit colour, 256x256 graphics.

None of them Col., i've the screens/briefings problem but in game is running just fine. Since i don't care about that minor problem i am running EAW without them. Cheers

HP Media Center PCm7170n purchased in December of '05 Intel Pentium D (Dual Core) runs at 3Ghz 4 Gigs Memory ATI Radeon HD4800 Saphire 512MB DDR3 Cataylst 10.3 Driver Packaging Version 8.712-100302b-096975C-ATI Windows XP 32-bit media center with SP2
I run EAW in d3d using 24bit Multi-Skin Squadrons at 40-60plus FPS and test 8-bit using Zacks Glide wrapper (it doesn't run as fast for me that way. But, still works very quickly).

OS : XP-SP3-Pro Chip : celeron 2.1GHz Memory : 2.00Gb RAM Vid card : Nvidia 7600GS 256Mb Driver set : 6.14.11.6375
I use the d3d mode and the D3D-windower which allows me to fly anything from 1.2 to 1.28E. Without the windower I can't fly 1.2 at all and get messed up half screen maps with the 1.28 series but can fly other than that.
cheers,
Pobs

HP Pavillion dv6500 laptop. Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit Service pack 2. GeForce 8400M GS video 128 MB. HP external monitor 1920*1080 max. This card/driver combination does not give horizon fog so I use the nGlide Glidewrapper and never run in d3d unless testing exes. Normally I set the resolution to 1280*960 and effectively run in a 4:3 window. Jel

Pentium Dual-core CPU E5200 2,5GHz 6 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB RAM graphic driver date : 24.05.2011 version: 8.861.0.0
Running a dual boot system.
1. WinXP service pack 2 2. Win7 pro media edition
Can run EAW1,28e without problems in d3d and glide (zeckensacks glide wrapper) in 1024x768(EAW.ini).
In d3d i get ugly terrain shimmering, in glide with 4 x anisotropy filtering its gone(Glidewrapper setting), with 16 x anisotropy filtering its a dream.

Recently I tested this configuration and it worked OK in D3D mode, without Glide Wrapper, using MrJelly's 1.28E
HP Pavilion dv6 laptop (15.6) AMD A-33000M APU Dual-Core AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1GB - 1366x768 screen using the weak Windows 7 Home Basic 64-bit sp.1
I think the game will work well, with all ATI 6xxx series, only with the usual map & menu screens problems.

ATI cards normaly dont show menue problems with EAW1.28e. Nvidea cards are the main trouble maker.

"ATI cards normaly dont show menue problems with EAW1.28e"
Nope, the ATI 6xxx series show.
this video board has a strong distortion on map, when player is dealing with the "set-up mission." It is very difficult change the mission parameters as; new target or new home base. In the "Briefing screen" on campaign mode It's the same thing, but the game still playable.
There is also a distortion in the hangar screens, generating psychedelic colors, time to time. The other menu screens options work properly at an acceptable level.

My new PC in France has an ATI card, and suffers from the map screen problem too. However, it does not occur when I use the d3d windower. On all my computers the psychedelic color problem is invariably fixed by going into multiplayer, selecting tcp/ip and then cancel when the IP address entry box appears. Jel

The map problem i dont consider as Menue problem. The Map problem is similar but the cause is somewhat different to the normal menue problem. People with the menu problem have trouble to reach the single mission menu, the multiplayer menu and so the map at all. Of course the map problem is ugly as well.

I have a few PC's that run EAW but the main 2 are: 1st: Windows XP "Home Edition", Pent.4 3.06 GHz, 2GB memory, Geforce Ti4600 4.3.4.5 driver (with max's fix), Sound Blaster Audigy This pc with max's fix works great for EAW...this one I still use for all EAW v1.2 such things...v1.28e works well with this one...just slower than my newer one. 2nd: Dual Boot... Windows XP "Pro Edition", AMD Phenom X4 3.2 GHz, 3GB memory, AMD Radeon HD6950(2GB)Catalyst 11.2 driver, Sound Blaster Audigy This XP pc works best with v1.28e...map issue with v1.2, I just get the small color blending (ATI) problem but it's no big deal...Had onboard sound at 1st and had issues. Got a cheap soundblaster audigy and fixed that issue...I use this one the most for all EAW stuff. Windows 7 32 Bit "Pro Edition" AMD Phenom X4 3.2 GHz, 3GB memory, AMD Radeon HD6950(2GB)Catalyst 11.2 driver, Sound Blaster Audigy The Windows 7 side of this PC works for EAW v1.28e...but with very choppy mouse during screens (in game EAW ran great)....I found that D3D windower fixed the the choppy mouse during screens but EAW (in game) ran choppy. So I just setup with D3D windower...and exit and just get through choppy mouse screen enough to run game (and runs great). This side also has the ATI color blending issue. I use the XP side for EAW more...nGlide works well for all 3 of these setups...just with the limits of Glide...I like those 512x512 terrain tiles now.

Hi MrJelly I know about the D3D Windower, Just testing video cards without it. I have a desktop with an AMD Radeon HD 6870 using D3D Windower, no problems with the map and other screens.I was hoping that the ATIs 6xxx series under 6800 could run the game without windower, but this didn't happen. Following sagginb's list, some others mine: Two desktops that I have or had EAW: An old AMD 64 with Gainward GeForce 6800 Golden Sample, Ultra 128MB + windows XP-Pro 32 bits SP.3. KV8-pro. This configuration work's as a charm; the only thing necessary is the Max's registry fix.last year, also tested in this configuration above, an XFX GeForce 6800 XT, it work well only with MrJelly's 1.28E otherwise, the usual 7217 error that everybody know. last is an Core i7-2600k, windows7 ultimate 64 bits sp.2, Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z with an EVGA GTX 580 3GB. Well, here the gates of hell are opened for EAW and D3D windower don't work with it.
