If there is anything that displays how small-minded humans are it is this ability to kill each other over a game.
How does sports/a game become so important to people ? I am always amazed to see it.
Its borne of the recent revolution and instability, with resentment against the regime being the key factor. Though Egyptian fans are known for violence, it has precious little to do with killing each other over a game or goal on this occasion....It is almost entirely politically motivated. I have seen footage of policemen and security at that match doing absolutely nothing, and quite deliberately. Normal security measures were dropped and knives allowed to be brought into the stadium. The hooligan ringleaders involved are political zealots and militants.
That said, yes human beings in large groups can be remarkably stupid....It's as if a herd mentality takes over and peoples individual IQ lowers by 90%....turning people into chimpanzees. The US is hardly immune to this either, but tend to just smash up cities and private property etc instead of beating each other up. Err, apart from things like the infamous 'Ten cent beer night', of course.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Cent_Beer_Night'A large number of intoxicated fans – some armed with knives, chains, nunchaku and portions of stadium seats that they had torn apart – surged onto the field, and others hurled bottles from the stands.
Realizing that the Rangers' lives might be in danger, Ken Aspromonte, the Indians' manager, ordered his players to grab bats and help the Rangers, attacking the team's own fans in the process. Rioters began throwing steel folding chairs, and Cleveland relief pitcher Tom Hilgendorf was hit in the head by one of them. Hargrove, involved in a fistfight with a rioter, had to fight another on his way back to the Texas dugout'. '
The bases were pulled up and stolen (never to be returned) and many rioters threw a vast array of objects including cups, rocks, bottles, batteries from radios, hot dogs, popcorn containers, and folding chairs. As a result, umpire crew chief Nestor Chylak, realizing that order would not be restored in a timely fashion, forfeited the game to Texas. He too was a victim of the rioters as one struck him with part of a stadium seat, cutting his head.[3] His hand was also cut by a thrown rock. He later called the fans "uncontrollable beasts" and stated that he'd never seen anything like what had happened, "except in a zoo".'
I think Philadelphia baseball fans recently decided to set fire to Philly and smash up police cars in riots etc after
winning some world series game? I saw Vancouver hockey fans going ballistic with hundreds injured in rioting on the BBC recently.....the list goes on.
RE: Football @Skatezilla, funny vid and I laughed but the UK has nowhere near the worst fans these days.

That would be South American countries, Eastern Europeans (particularly Poles), even the Germans and Dutch have more violent firms these days. The Turks are extremely violent too. South Americans take frikkin machine guns to matches and shoot it out! Nutters.
People are fecking idiots, by and large and wherever you go. Simple as that.
