What ever happened to Compans and Hammered, man i use to love their old beat up skins..remember these old classics..

When Compans did that old beat up Hurri there was nothing like his style of skinning at the time, his work always sort of reminded me of an old oil painting or a Trudgian artwork, wicked stuff. Also ..excuse my severa lack of AA and AF as i cannot seem to get it to take in game, but i will crank another thread about that so this one doesnt go ot with boring tech stuff.

..and raise a beer to the old skinners who have wandered on cheers

Hammerd's stuff was top notch. He did some excellent work with Jane's as well.

Found the old posts where th eoriginal skins were released ..the Hurri was 2003 , but most were at the old il2 skins mega site that went down, sad days when that happened as we waited for it to come back but it never did.

Compans Under the White Rose campaign here CAMPAIGN

Do a search through m4t maybe ? (need to be registered) M4T I know Kamikuza had a 20 skin download pack yeeeeeeaaaaars ago with all of Compans skins but he has also disappeared of the il2 radar.

There is also check six if you want to try a search there CHECK SIX

After much searching i managed to find where Hammered hid his skins in 2005 after a forum request but the page is long since dead.Hammered used to be part of Blitzpigs which is also now folded but they had a link to the Pilots Pub so someone there may now where to contact him.. PILOTSPUB

The Fly also has some impressive older skin work here THE FLYS SKINS

Hammered's site was still live until very recently.
http://members.cox.net/hammerd/Main.html
I seem to remember reading that cox was going to drop their website hosting service.

Several if not all of Hammered's skins are still available at the Internet Archive:

Click the blue "impatient" link if it doesn't load right away.

Snorri's B-17 template is what got me into skinning in the first place. I'm forever indebted to him for that!

I had all of Snorri's and your skins as well as yours Rudel , i especially remember his Karaya 1 and the snake ju87 smile Then the great skin delete happened. I used to be really anal and had all of my skins organised by skinner and type on a partition, but when i deleted all of il2 installs i deleted everything il2 associated..but then..a few weeks ago i dug a drive out of my cupboard which had a switcher version and a full clean up to 4.09m with associated skins and campaigns, so cheerin' biggrin

Aw God bless you Ajay. I can't believe that Hurri skin was nearly 10 years ago. I kind of lost interest when COD didn't deliver. That and I'm currently going through the process of divorce, in some part due to my obsession with this kind of thing. I figure it's in the blood and it makes me happy.

Another big reason is I got interested in 3D modelling and the possibility of building my own game. After playing this sh*t for 14 years I decided I could largely do a better job myself. So, I work a full time job but have been working on a Napoleonic project in my spare time. It started off as an idea for a game but the poly count on the figures just got extremely high and I'm learning it all as I go along. So at present I'm shooting for some nice illustrations and improving these figures all the time. If someone wants to host all my skins for IL2 I still have them. There are dozens which can be downloaded with the campigns at mission 4 today. Anyway, here are some examples of my own stuff:

S! and thanks,

Comp

Wish I could remember now, here goes

Skin by Greg Boyington

One more. Skinner unknown

It was the great skins that motivated me to spend way too much time composting pics of these fantastic aircraft

Looking at the shots that I did years ago reminds me my composits are like my flying; a bit hamfisted lol biggrin

If you open the skin with Windows Viewer or Irfanview and look at the raw skin most likely the skinner will have signed it somewhere where it doesn't show in game.

Look at this lovely. This is perhaps the only screenie I felt completely satisfied with. What a tantastic skin to work with, add some nice lighting, a prairie sky...... This pic was a call out to Ivan Putski who apparently will no longer answer at roll

Skins by jocko- No.402 'City of Winnipeg' sqdn. I'd asked him to make me up a set of Canadian Hurris after seeing an aircraft he did.

Long time no see Comps smile ..isn't divorce a fun ride wink

Your Hurri skin inspired me too knock out a version for EAW which was where i was at the time..she was my last EAW skin before moving onto il2.

I blame you for the drool that formed on my keyboard the day you posted that Hurri..and then the many..many nights, looking through bloodshot eyes until the wee hours chasing pixels in paint programs learning how to skin , wasn't long after that i got divorced....hey..hang about! biggrin

Good luck with your project mate, and the other as well smile

Yes divorce has proved a laugh a minute.

Here's some other shots of the Hurri skins. There are 12 in my campaign packs. Plus a later grey/green one.

That's a mess of super nice skinwork! cheers

Is anyone doing work of that quality on the IL2 1941 (3 Series)?

I spend as much time in that plane as all others combined and would love to have a skin as excellent as the ones in this thread.

Excellent thread ! Kristorf, Compans, but also CannonUK were always amongst my favourites.

One skinner however always had a special place in my skins collection : RONNCO, a.k.a the "Grandmaster of the Blue Ones". No one ever nailed the USN/USMC blue paintjobs like he did IMO. Here's a couple of examples :

Those were the days...

Cheers

Nico

PS : Whatever happened to CanonUK's site ? I can't seem to find it anymore ? Have all his skins just vanished from the net ?

Yup, the prop blur is an old mod from the AAA days. Unfortunately I lost the files long ago and I'm not even sure you could still find them anywhere.

Cheers

Nico
