We are in the process of refurbishing one of our Tiger Moths. That includes changing the ancient Bendix/King radio and transponder for new units, sanding the wings and fuselage before painting the plane green, making new doors for the cockpits and luggage compartment, and various other bits and bobs. We are currently working on the doors, and I am making them together with one of the other guys.

Here's the hangar

Starting with a 1mm sheet of plywood, we cut two identical pieces for each door, glued them together and left them to dry overnight in a press we made of two steel plates

Then some rough cutting, sanding and fitting

and this is the result smile

It's obvious that you guys aren't doing proper maintenance.

I don't see any duct tape, safety wire, or WD-40 in any of those photos.

Cheers!

Rick... hahaha

Come on Semmern... show that you dare to take the first flight after the winter stop!

I've posted the same pic in the aircraft ID thread, so I'll wait a little before answering wink

LOL! Too true biggrin Actually, we've been destroying rather than fixing if we're to follow your logic, as we have removed the bits of duct tape that was used to fix some small tears in the fabric biggrin

Wouldn't have any second thoughts about that. This will be a Tiger Moth in excellent condition when we're finished with it. The engine already purrs like a kitten, so we're leaving that alone, the rest will only be better than it was smile
