Hi guys I've got a 32inch LED HDTV just collecting dust in my spare room and I was thinking if I could hook it up to my pc I could have a bigger screen for flight sims and such, but I was wondering if it would have a better or worse picture than my monitor?. I can connect my tv with hdmi but would I be better to connect it through the vga port? Has aybody had any experiance with hdtv's an pc's?

it would be hard to read text on the HDTV, as the Dot Pitch is no where near the dot pitch of a PC Screen.

A while back I hooked up my PC to a 47in HDTV 1080p via HDMI. It worked just fine. Try it. I was surprised. If I was single it would dtill be hooked up

To over simplify, if one can sit at least 1.5 times the HDTV diagonal from the HDTV, it will look OK. So, for a 32 inch HDTV, most folks must sit 48" away for it to look OK. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (as they say). Some folks will be happy to sit closer, others will need it farther away. The poorer one's eyesight, the closer one can sit

I use 3 x 42" 1920x1080 hdtv's. I sit ~42" from them. No problem whatsoever and I know a few people using triple hdtvs.
For games you will be happy. For day to day as a monitor you will need to try it and see as 42" is just too big as a computer monitor but the text is crisp, in fact I am thinking of going 3x55" 3d hdtv's.

For that size screen, I'd sit further back. Getting an "acceptable" picture just isn't enough for the expense IMO. Sit further away or get smaller screens. I use a 24" on my pc, my head about 4' from it when I have my G27 set up. I wouldn't go larger for what I consider acceptable.
I've done the tv for monitor thing a couple of times. A 27", 26". As mentioned, text just isn't as clear, and it will be obvious. Also, they don't support a good range of resolutions, which can create odd problems here and there when you least expect it. Most won't have the response time that a monitor has, but you have to shop that individually either way since there's no standard.

I have had a lot of people in my pit and no problems what so ever. It will depend on the hdtv for sure. It needs to be a true 1080p panel. I think what you are saying is a generalisation based on older tv's. New ones will be fine for games but that doesnt mean you may like it for desktop as mentioned. At the end of the day you have it in the other room, it would have been easier to try it out than type the post

I use a 42" Insignia LED 1080p as my monitor. Works fantastic for gaming and reading. Just a matter of custom configuring the monitor contrast ratio and color balance. I keep it stored so when I run my Blu-ray player through it to it keeps the setting. Little slideshow of it

i use a PC screen for emails and most of my games.
I use my 30 Inch HDTV for Movies and TV streaming, and sometimes games that i know dont have small text font sizes (mainly Xbox 360 Ports.)
