Hi,
I'm still trying to learn this sim. However, I'm having a problem. I was messin around the other day having installed ACE for the combined ops using the 6updater utility. Things seemed to be ok until I started the game.
At various points it tells me that I'm missing files. I also tried to load the National Training Center map/mission to practice. But the editor tells me something like "can't load mission due to downloaded content missing. ace_sys_weapons; ace_sys_repair".
I don't know what any of this means. I'm not even sure what question to ask except how do I get all of that. I've got CBA installed, ACE installed, and ACEX installed. Thanx in advance.

At a guess it means your copy of ACE is incomplete or partially corrupt. Content missing is referring to a module or sub module of script that is required by the mission you are loading but isn't present. It is also possible that the mission is older than the latest version of ACE and a module name has changed so while it may be present the mission refers to it by the wrong name and therefore can't find it. I've had that issue with the Invasion44 mod for Arma2 and some of the missions floating around the net because the guys making the mod decided to change unit class names eg the internal reference for say an MG42 team changed but the mission hadn't been updated so had errors when an MG42 team was loaded.

On the whole though I'd probably first be checking that you had the right version of ACE and it was completely up to date and in good order.

You probably already know this but ACE adds both a lot of complexity to the game and a lot of realism so if you are just starting Arma2 by adding ACE you have increased the learning curve a large amount. I guess what I mean is that if it's giving you trouble you might start out without ACE for a bit and then add it in later.

Anyway best of luck,
Stonehouse

Thanx for the help. It says ACE 2.0. I guess this is a new version. The error messages occur throughtut the game even as it's booting up.

Regarding the complexity. Yeah I do realize that. Good point. Maybe I should consider taking it easy and just learning. Do you know of any actual "training" missions. I mean are their any training missions that deal with specific tasks only, such as Bounding Overwatch and other tactics specifically to teach you how it(any tactics) should be done properly?

..The error messages occur throughtut the game even as it's booting up...

Ok I believe I've had the same experience previously due to a mod I was trying to use that was missing bits and pieces as I believe that the game in some way parses the mods you nominate loading modules of script into memory during loading. I could well be wrong in that belief but's that my hunch on how it works. So I'd almost definitely say that your copy of ACE is the problem and is missing bits or corrupt somehow.

Easy way to test it would be to take ACE out of your startup up list of mods in your shortcut or deactivate ACE in the launcher you use - whatever you do to start the game - and run the game and see if the errors still occur. If they don't then it pretty much proves that your copy of ACE is the problem in which case you'll need to go back to where you got it and either redownload it or make sure you have all the components you need or perhaps both.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
Stonehouse

Sorry missed your question about training missions. You could try www.armaholic.com which has all sorts of arma related downloads. There is also a lot of good info at http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/ but possibly the easiest way if you live in a country with a compatible timezone to the SimHQ Arma2 sessions you could join those and I imagine the guys would be happy to help you come up to speed.

Cheers,

Thanx. I've been to those sites. Their great. But I've not found missions that I'm looking for yet.

I did try and actually reinstall ArmII Combined OPs and still am having the same problems with ACE. I guess I won't worry about it.

Just so you know, it's the mod not the game causing the issue. If you want ACE to work then you need to end up with a complete copy of the mod in a folder/s that you tell Arma2 about via a parameter string when you launch the game. Usually people create a shortcut to the Arma2 OA exe and have a string like -mod D:\Mods\ACE in the target. I'm at work and can't remember the syntax off the top of my head. All sixupdater does is dump the mod files into a location you nominated and update them to the latest version when you run it and possibly it sets up the parameter string for the exe too. I've not used it for a long time and used another method myself. It occurs to me that you may have a complete copy of the ACE mod but you (misconfigured 6 updater perhaps) are telling Arma 2 look in the wrong place for some parts of the mod. I seem to recall the ACE mod was delivered in several folders with each folder being a sub module of the overall mod.

Anyway bottom line is that I doubt you need to reinstall the game but just get a good copy of ACE and then up how you launch the game properly so the various parts of ACE are in the place you tell Arma2 to look.

Maybe someone who knows 6updater here at SimHQ can step in at this point and offer advice. In the meantime I reckon you should just try to have a go at the game and enjoy yourself and come back to ACE after you are comfortable with the base package.

Cheers,
Stonehouse

HAH!!! It appears I've fixed it. I didn't realize I was using ver1.59 of OA. I patched to 1.6 and voila...it's working.

Still got to figure out how to do some real training though. I'm basically clueless when it comes to ground warfare. Thanx for being patient with me.

Lol ok that would probably be the problem then wink I guess I never thought you would be a version behind. 6updater would have given you the latest version of ACE and it would have required 1.60 as a prerequisite. Probably says that somewhere in the fine print of a readme.

Good to hear you fixed it.

Yeah, that's how I figured it out. The fine print at the bottom while it's initializing. I saw something saying I was a version behind and that there was a 1.6 update. So I looked it up...and voila. Ok...live and learn.

I tried out ACE and at this point found it to be pretty tough. I don't like not having the aiming crosshairs. I need to see if I can at least get that back.

I think you can configure that stuff in the config.hpp (or something like that) file that comes with ACE - there is a wiki I believe on the main ACE site that covers that stuff. I don't know for sure but it is quite possible that host settings override client settings with ACE so if you are going to go that way it's probably better to get used to it rather than get surprised joining an online game you really want to participate in.

Cheers,
Stonehouse
