Salute! IL2 community.

Is there a small-to-medium sized (e.g. 5-10 active pilots) virtual squadron that would like to participate in ongoing online campaigns?

Currently, the AKA, 352nd, FA, 418th, HVY, RAF209 and other squadrons (e.g. individual pilots) are participating in a Battle of Britain campaign. However, this is just one of many this group of virtual pilots has flown over the past year and a half, twice a week, every week (with breaks in between campaigns, or for testing upcoming campaigns, or major holidays, LOL :)).

The point is, we are dedicated virtual pilots (some of us also fly IL2/CoD, Black Shark 1/2, Flaming Cliffs 2, A10C, etc., etc.), who enjoy comraderie and good aerial competition. Here are some highlights of what we do:

- We (one of the participating squadrons) have our own server, although we're currently in the process of transferring to another squad's server to host the campaign missions.

- We use a campaign mission generator written by one of our participating squad members, and a parser which parses the results of each mission and provides stats for our web site.

- We use a campaign unit manager that allows a "commander" on each side to manage ground units and ships (based on waypoints set up prior to the campaign start for all to see) prior to each campaign mission.

- We use a campaign map that all participants can see, however pilots on one side (i.e. RED or BLUE) can only see the status of ground/sea units on their side. This adds a great deal of tactical perspective to each mission. Here's a link to the map if you want to check it out: http://aka-fa.no-ip.org/campaign

- We use full real settings, except for the speed bar.

- We use HSFX 5.0, which is based on IL2/46 4.10.1 (may change once new version of HSFX are completed that are compatible with 4.11)
EDIT: We are likely to start using stock version 4.11 for the next campaign and some others down the road to make the online events easier for pilots to participate in.

- We don't have death kicks, so if you die in a campaign mission you can still fly (i.e. not Dead is Dead) again.

- We usually have a finite number of aircraft per airfield, so pilots must replace lost aircraft eventually, or have nothing to fly at front line airfields. This includes flying out of a "supply" airbase to ferry aircraft to forward airbases, including supply/fuel to replace what is destroyed via enemy air strikes on airfields. The details of the numbers of aircraft, etc. can change from campaign to campaign.

- We typically fly 10 missions per campaign, per "phase", where we then switch sides and fly 10 missions again for the second phase. This has been a fun addition to our campaigns, allowing all pilots to fly both sides of the conflict, and lessen the affect of slight miss-matches in aircraft matchups.

- We fly every Friday at 5:30PM Pacific and every Sunday at 4:30PM Pacific, with the mission going for 3 hours.

- We try for a fun, balanced and semi-historical plane set - we're not fanatical about historical-ness, but like some historical basis for starting plane set discussions but also want balance and fun. But again, if it's not "perfect", both teams fly both sides anyway, so it's not as critical as those events where some pilots "only fly on one side".

So, if this sounds interesting to you, and you are in an active squadron with about 5-10 active members who want to participate in a regular, fun yet competitive flying event in various theaters of WW2, please contact me at akarelent at gmail dot com. Please only contact me if you and your squad are serious about participating in an ongoing online campaign event, or if you have questions to further clarify what we do before you make a decision.

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to being contacted by an interested squad representative.

Salute!

Edited the original post to state we will be using stock IL2/46 version 4.11 for our next campaign and likely some other future campaigns.
