Some stuff captured from work in progress on Sealion mission 6. Mission can be played from 7 separate points of view:
- Erpro 210 Bf110 (attack on British troop positions at Killingwood ridge south of Hawkinge) - LG2 Bf109e4 scramble from Lympne - JG26 Bf109e4 air train escort - He111 air train supply mission Lympne - 64 Sq Spitfire escort for attack on Folkestone harbour - 212 Sq Blenheim attack on Folkestone harbour - 111 Sq Hurricane scramble from Hawkinge
So it is actually seven missions in 1.
For this mission I have built and populated Folkestone harbour using period photographs of the port as my source. There is also considerable land warfare action underway during the mission, with 8th Panzer division tanks and truck mounted Pak 38s trying to take the ridge at Killingwood, while British troops try to hold the line and British artillery targets shipping in the harbour.
I have kept the actual number of ships and objects in the mission to the minimum necessary to keep 20-30 fps on my medium spec machine. My own observations are that the biggest killer of FPS when you are combining land, sea and air ops like this is actually not really the objects/trees/grass etc, though obviously these have to be managed, it is smoke from burning objects. Light up a few freighters and you can take a real FPS hit trying to fly over smoking wrecks.
Cheers

I have to say this one is my personal favorite so far. Today in play testing I just sat and watched from the point of view of the 8th Panzer armoured units. First one group of tanks got hammered crossing the plains, but then Erpro 210 took out the AT gun that was holding them back and the survivors made it to the foothills of Killingwood ridge before a Bofors cleaned them up. Meanwhile some truck mounted Pak38s were sneaking through some woods to flank the British positions, ran through a British encampment wreaking mayhem, and then climbed the ridge. As they climbed, an almighty dogfight was going on overhead between Hurris, Spits, 110s and 109s. As I was watching them, a Bf110 trailing smoke dove straight into the ground behind the Panzers. They crested the ridge and got clobbered by a British AT position.
Then I flew the default mission, which is a Hurricane scamble from Hawkinge. I climbed out and saw a couple of 110s circling, but in the distance, I saw a flight of heavies and decided to go for those. I went past them too close and took some hits, so I dropped low and zoomed up under the rear end Charlie. I got hits on his port engine and made another pass, and he dropped out of formation. I closed on him again, and paid for my target fixation! A 109 had gotten behind me and filled me full of MGFF. My engine quit and I crash landed near Folkestone, just in time to watch a column of tanks trundle past.
Loving this FMB!

During the briefing, look for a button lower right that reads Custom. Hit it, then you'll get boxes that show all the planes available in mission. Find the group you want, and click the greyed out little pilot above it. This is also where you can change the size of the individual flights.

Thanks Cheesehawk! In the meantime I opened the mission in the FMJ and changed the lead plane in the 109 flight to a player plane, but I'd rather do it the easy way like you described!

Don't apologise, I never read the instructions either (real men don't read manuals, right?) - but there is a FAQ that might have some other answers that can save you time. While real men don't read instructions (or even readme's), it is well macho to read an FAQ.
