Military Monday, tonight, 8:00 EST! Join us as we continue into the closing acts of the Sahrani campaign. I'd also like to play an armor mission tonight, and a variable town attack or two, as well as whatever else turns up from the library. See you there!

Campaign mission didn't make it onto the server in time, but we still had some good play. Glad you guys enjoyed that large scale combined arms mission, Road Rage. That's the kind that either turns out awesome, or goes south very quickly! 1-800-Banana King for a good time.

Also some fantastic CAS going on in that mission. With the newest JSRS, calling in an A-10 gun run danger close with the rounds going right over one's head is perhaps the single greatest experience in ArmA. Bombs coming in, Javelins flying, Bradley guns rattling...

That larger mission was intense! It was awesome watching the A-10 support strafe targets and then tracers lighting up the sky from AAA lol! Went good until that first BMP rolled over the ridge and instantly lit us up with about 10 rounds from it's main gun. We were still combat effective but the damage was done, and once I saw that chopper waaaayy off in the distance lining up for a rocket pass I knew it was all over.
Also I wouldn't mind giving the "dead" something to do while the mission plays out. I was trying to take screenshots but the spectator script went funky and for some reason my keyboard/mouse stopped working the camera, so I got bored lol
Either way still good times, and the AI is freaking EVIL

Yep, the Bradley mission was great! I was trying to get a TOW missile to hit that Mi-24, but the rockets were already inbound by the time I fired it. I dunno how I got out of that thing before it blew up.

I will try to make some more large-scale combined arms missions like that for the future, since the response was so positive. There are a lot of things that make a mission feel big even if there are only 11 or so players! Similar concept but with a shorter time frame -- closer to 20-30 instead of 50-60 minutes.
I'll also see if I can find a way for people who die unfortunately early, for whatever reason, to still be motivated to stay in and wait it out. For many missions, the possibility exists to introduce the sudden assistance of guerrilla fighters, or one of the previously discussed systems such as just providing a 'dead guy shooting range' with a crate o' weapons and some targets, far away from the AO.

I still want to know what's up on some of those missions when I die and I see like a battalion of troops swimming...

Hehe, yeah was wondering what that explosion was in the middle of the road. Lucky for me a Bradley was near so I was able to crawl into it. Arrow to the knee or sidewinder still applies to today's battlefield I think those swimming troops are for the variable mission's and it is the pool the server picks from.

@Jedi: Yep, what Pmike said is correct, though I think it's the opposite -- it moves all troops not used for the variable mission into the ocean. I wonder why they aren't deleted, but I know getting that variable script working well was problematic.
