Hi,
During 1940 british campaign.
my spitfire engine fails a lot.
This is very annoying, when you want to take of it stops 3 to 4 times and when im in the middle of a dogfight or chasing bombers.
How can i prevent this?

Gravity filled carb is your problem. biggrin

On later marks of Spitfire and Hurricane this was fixed.

Quote:
Carburettor versus fuel injection
Early in its development, the Merlin engine's lack of direct fuel injection meant that both Spitfires and Hurricanes, unlike the Bf 109E, were unable to simply nose down into a steep dive. This meant a Luftwaffe fighter could simply "bunt" into a high-power dive to escape an attack, leaving the Spitfire sputtering behind, as its fuel was forced by negative "g" out of the carburettor. RAF fighter pilots soon learned to "half-roll" their aircraft before diving to pursue their opponents. The use of carburettors was calculated to give a higher specific power output, due to the lower temperature, and hence the greater density, of the fuel/air mixture fed into the motor, compared to injected systems. In March 1941, a metal diaphragm with a hole in it was fitted across the float chambers. It partly cured the problem of fuel starvation in a dive, and became known as " Miss Shilling's orifice" as it was invented by a female engineer, Beatrice "Tilly" Shilling. Further improvements were introduced throughout the Merlin series, with Bendix-manufactured pressure carburetors introduced in 1943.

Hi......
in the 1940 campaign, the Spit had a gravity-fed carburator.
(Maybe even the Hurri too?) If you push the nose forward
she will cut off. So if a bandit in front of you dives, you'll
have to roll over and pull the stick to you. Just keep the
'forces' (Gravity, or G's.) toward the bottom of your aircraft.
Just remember, no nose-overs, or do them very very slow.
Or just let her cut off, and re-start her when your angle is good.
(Don't forget to pull your throttle back when re-starting.)

...and when you start your engine to take off set your throttle to 30% and he should start right away wink

Cheers

The Luftwaffe pilots were aware of the and used their fuel injection and a swift dive to evade troublesome fighters. It does keep one on their toes.
