I've been sitting here this morning thinking back on all that time I spent overseas in the military, and something just jumped out at me that I never really connected up before.
Somewhere in this world there is a man who is my exact double!
I remember that pretty much everywhere I went, I was mistaken for this guy. I didn't really notice it at the time, but it's very clear to me in retrospect.
He must be a very gregarious sort as a lot of people seem to know him.
And furthermore, I know his name.
His name is "Joe". Yes, that's right. Out there somewhere is a guy named Joe who looks exactly like me.
Almost everywhere I went overseas, and that's a lot of different countries when you look at where I've been, as soon as I set foot into the local community, someone would call out, "Hey Joe!"
The guy is very well traveled. He's been almost everywhere. And to be honest, I think he was an easy mark. People selling things always thought I was him. "Hey Joe! You want to buy..."
And he was a carouser. Many was the time that ladies of the evening would see me and mistake me for him. "Hey Joe! Buy me a drink!" they'd call to me.
"Sorry! I'm not Joe!" I'd have to explain.
It's a strange feeling knowing that there's someone out there who looks exactly like me; who probably chose a very similar career to me; who has been to most of the places that I've been.
And I'm pretty proud of myself for putting this all together and figuring this one out. I think it's a fine piece of deductive reasoning.
I'd have probably made a really good detective.
Cheers!
Rick...
