I run at that resolution but the game will only go to something like 2036x1500. Is there some way to enable 2560x1600?

Yes, of course. I fly at that resolution, and here you have what I use in conf.ini:

[window]
width=2560
height=1600
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

If you are using a mod version of game, there are other ways to get a true widescreen aspect without cropping edges: FOV mods (I like the Sanka's one).

Regards.

Have you tried to edit these parameters on the ini file? Or used Il-2 config? Try that and then don't change the resolution in game.

Thanks but when I try to save my config.ini I get an "Access denied" message and I don't see an "open as administrator" option when I right-click on the conf.ini

Check if conf.ini file is in "read only mode". Change its properties.

Yes, I did install it in my program files folder.
Should I delete it and reinstall it elsewhere?

The file is not set to read only- I am just not granted the ability to save it, and I don't see any open or run as administrator options on the file

I suppose you are in W7 or Vista, isn't it?

With those OS you should not use Program Files folder to install games. Create a folder, for example "Games" to do it. Program Files is a secured folder. OS is going to limit your options there.

Turn of "UAC" and you can install where ever you like.

Simply type UAC into the search box on the start menu, you will get a link to change UAC settings, once there -drop the slider all the way to the bottom.Exit.reboot.
