Since the bridge was going to be demolished anyway do you think the captain should charge the state of Kentucky demolition fees? Wheels

I live about 35 miles from that bridge, have been across it many times in a car and under it many times in a boat...it should have been replaced 20 years ago. I'm actually surpised that the guy they interviewed that came close to running off of it didn't have the " It was scary, we could have been killed or worse" comment that most in this area would have used in that situation.

The local paper here is reporting that the ship was possibly carrying Saturn rocket parts...no idea where it was going with them, though. Didn't know we had a Saturn rocket facility anywhere nearby.

That has got to be a misquote since the Saturn rocket was used for the Apollo and Skylab programs and not much else to my knowledge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_(rocket_family)#Launch_historyWheels

Well, we are behind the times a bit around here and my local paper's never been a strong source of accuracy. I think the Kentucky State Trooper actually reported it was "rocket parts", but my local paper can only remember the Saturn as our last rocket, I guess. Hell, they even reported on this in 1955..... Green Men of Kelly ...and if you ask any of the locals, it was more a "moonshine induced" event than anything.

WC Giggles! Also why the comma in "Ship carrying rocket parts, hits Kentucky bridge" is it just a random one, like when people randomly add them to pluralized word's? <- shudder

It may have had the rocket parts, but it sure didn't have the rocket scientists . . .

Police officer to captain in a sarcastic tone: Soo, stuck, are we?
Captain to police officer in equally sarcastic tone: Nope, ran out of fuel while delivering this bridge.

Local radio's reporting that the Coast Guard's investigating that the ship possibly could have been in one of the recreational channels instead of the designated commercial one....a spot where the bridge is supposedly a bit higher.
I take all news around here with a few grains of salt, though.

Don't you just love how the bridge section is just draped over the bow like a shawl. Indeed. Nice debris removal technique.. Sorta like crashing a plane in a graveyard..
