I just flew the mission in my current (2nd) playthrough of the Deployment Campaign, and it played out very much alike - especially the part about the ambush and expanding rockets at an alarming rate and then using the gun. :-)

I got lucky on the return to Nalchik, though. 3 SAM hits and still airborne with weapons, targeting and engines fully operational. I think I took the shooter out with the remaining rockets, but I never really new his exact location. Just glad we all made it to the airport in one piece.

When our flight of 2 finally caught up with the Mi-8, he had already landed and was taxiing, so I hovered around him a bit (enjoying the newborn accuracy of my Cougar, who's stock pots I'd cleaned just the other day). When the Mi-8 reached the parking position, I, too, got the "Mission failed" message, but after finishing the mission, I, too, was able to advance in the campaign. Seems like a weird little bug.

Anyway, this campaign in the beautiful graphics of BS2 is just so enjoyable, it's great fun. Thank you for these wonderful AARs, they always make me go "Hey, I wanna fly that right now!" :-)

If I would have had a chance I might have turned to engage.. I'm wondering will a single Igla launching MANPAD only launch one missile then be out of commission? I've *think* I've seen two different types..the lone SA-18 and then one with a reloading guy nearby? Is there a finite number of missiles each can fire?

I agree..BS2 really shines with the graphics brought over from the A-10C development. And the improved AI and Mission Editor really round it out..

Thanks for the comments..
