The rumor is Apparently MS will opt for a HD 6000 series...





At this point I don't know what to think. Let's see if MS release the final hardware spec.

An important feature that next gen consoles should have is to be able to run games at full 1080p which in my opinion that already is the standard on PC.

Wii U is supposed to run its games at 1080p so if the xbox 720 can deliver same graphics at the same resolution, I think It'd be good enough.

New Xbox is rumored NOT to play used games.... don't know how, but thats what IGN is reporting.

If the 360 can play the original Xbox, makes no sense not to allow 720 to run 360 games.

If it wont play used games then they can go **** themselves. I almost never buy used games but I do let friends borrow games and borrow games from friends. Also if you want to go to a friends house and play your game you are SOL.

Unless they make you register a game to play it how can it tell a disc that you own and use vs a disc you get somewhere else? And if they do that what about places with no internet... no xbox? Also, is it confirmed that they are calling it the 720? That name is terrible.

It could be as simple as leaving one sector on the disk writable and then the xbox encodes the disk the first time you play it.

"Would you like to register this disk to this xbox?"

If yes it writes the final sector on the disk. If no then it ejects the disk and wont let you play.

The article does state that there will be 2 versions, a "pared down" and a more advanced version. I'd expect (hope) the 6670, assuming the rumor is correct, is for the pared down one.

If that is true, my guess is that would be a bad thing for developers. One game for a console with two different hardware configuration?. It could become a headache for the developers.

I don't even want to think about buying another xbox until I hear about some great games coming out on it. And I don't mean the standard annual release shooters or Forza. Hardware is only half of what you need to enjoy gaming.

As far as not playing used games, that's fine with me. Most big titles that I want I get at release. If not, they're cheaper NEW at Amazon than used at Gamestop. No biggie. I can't remember the last time I bought a used game. This would be a nice improvement IMO if it means we can buy a game, install it, and then stow the disc away for safekeeping rather than have to put it in the tray.

The BIG question: will it run standard pc peripherals? I want to use my G27 on there.


*The 360 doesn't play Xbox games by nature. There is a limited list of backwards compatible games, but it took a couple of years for that list to grow to even where it ended up. None can be played online anymore. They quit working on adding titles long ago. I'd still love to see Rallisport Challenge 2 on that list. SD games look like crap on an HD tv though, that's the main consolation.

But...what would happen if your console bricks out after a year like so many xbox's did this gen? Considering xbox's solution to the problem of sending them your console and then they sending back a concole that was not yours to begin with, it would instantly make your entire collection of games unusable. Not sure that this rumor is believable or even feasable when you start thinking about the complications involved.

I believe a more realistic possibility is that discs disappear altogether in favor of digital content that is bought and downloaded online. These games could be attached to your account and then you could download them as needed if your console bricks out. Similar to how things work with live right now. It would also keep overhead costs down in development of burning thousands of discs for sale. I'm not a fan of this option myself but I can easily see the industry going this route.

These rumored specs have been flying around all week, i didnt want to post anything cuz they are... just rumors.

128Bit GDD3 w/ 480 Shaders is not Next Gen.
And cant run today's games at 1080p on low at playable NTSC Frame Rates (60 Full-Frame Fields/Sec)

But then again MS can take that 6670 GPU and customize it.. but that's up in the air..
Also MS is rumored to be using the AMD APU Cores for its Main CPU, which would mean the APU can Run in Xfire w/ the 6670 to bring it up to at least 6770 spec. (800 Total SP). But that's just another Rumor.

Xbox 360 Games will Run on Windows 8 if your hardware meets minimum specs.
Xbox 720 will run Windows 8 kernel and DX11 (will update to DX12.)

the 6670 is also the highest GPU that can Xfire with the AMD APU Chips.

which would be 960 Stream Processors and VLIW4, if they re-do the memory Controller to DDR3, this = a 6850.
