A guess it's possibly more a proposal than a question. Anyway a lot of SimHQ members live in timezones that prevent them from joining in the fun of the regular Arma2 events hosted on the SimHQ server. I know I mentioned the MSO module in another recent post and while I'm not trying to force it on anyone it occurred to me today that the persistance of ammo states etc which continues as long as the server is running the mission would suit the international nature of the SimHQ group quite well. I've only ever run it with friends as a single session hosted mission and not on a dedicated server so therefore while I've never been able to experience rejoining a server based MSO mission and having my weapons, ammo and status and position pick up from where I left off I understand it works very well. It is also apparently pretty easy to add the MSO module to your own missions so if the ones provided in the MSO download don't suit you then theoretically you could strap it onto things like COIN.

Has any consideration ever been given to running one of the MSO missions for several days at a time to allow the chance of wider participation? (latest version discussed here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=130308&page=2)

Cheers,
Stonehouse

The requirement for CBA currently would prevent us from running any MSO missions on the server, unfortunately, since we run stock ArmA 2 CO. This is part of why I developed COIN and COIN Patrol independently, though it shares many of the same features as the MSO concept.

SimHQ is a small unit, co-op server only.... with an occasional exception. And will remain that way. But thanks for the recommendation.

Ok fair enough.

<edit> Magnum, not really important but just on the "small unit, coop" bit. As far as I understand MSO is aligned with that viewpoint. It's not a Warfare or big CTI server and is more a Patrol ops style thing but with persistance or at least that was how I'd envisgaged SimHQ using it. Just you might have several units at the firebase that work cooperatively across the time zones. Anyway as I said not really important (particularly in view of the CBA issue which counts it out in any case) I just didn't want you to think that I was suggesting a move away from small unit coop missions <end edit>

Cheers,
Stonehouse

Correct but because the mission stays up and tracks players states they can join and leave and rejoin to continue from where they left off. Anyway moot point so not to worry.

When I have some more time, I will take a look at the mechanism they are using for that and see if I can integrate it into the COIN Patrol. I can think of a few ways to do it, actually, that would not be difficult to implement clean-room by myself.

What exactly does it track? Location, gear, and current vehicle? That is, you drive somewhere in a HMMWV with a Mk17, logoff, you want to log back in and be in the same place in that HMMWV with a Mk17? That wouldn't be hard at all (famous last words). Not sure if there is more to it than that.

They are using a module called RMM Nomad - Persistant Player State

here is a link to the editor guide for MSO -

Wow, a lot of great scripts in there. I will definitely see what I can implement as part of COIN Patrol.

I guess if you are looking at those you may want to run your eyes over these too in case you haven't seen this one either

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=129003&highlight=HAC

Hope you find it of interest.

Cheers

PS The MSO players manual is found here
https://docs.google....uthkey=CNW9s-MO

Although if you want to download it I believe the pdf version here https://dev-heaven.net/projects/mso/documents does a better job of presenting the possibilities.

I guess Magnum and you can have a read through the doco and see if there is any use for SimHQ activities.
