Bloody good screen shots if I may say so.

I love this sim too. It's very obvious that the guys who designed it had real world experience.

At last a tank sim designed by tankies. The more you get into it the more brilliant things you see.

Which one? Operation safari make a folder under shared campaigns place camppack2 file in there, should work. Put more time into operation crescent. Just install like patch with addpack file. Make sure its above dev updates. thats it. Or if you have crescent and want to put safari in with it, place it next to operation crescent. Sabow is good about picking up new campaigns

When I read about the fighting around Ahwaz and Susangerd this is more what I picture. Flooded fields. Upper right hand corner susangerd map, out side of playable area.

I have got to fix that spec map I screwed up when I optimised my files. Final G3 and M1 helmet will NOT be that freaken shiny.

All these screens involve either V1.9 mini mod or missions Mardga 2.0 Expert or The Road.

Awesome screens. Question, though: If SABOW is a sim vs. a tactical platform like AP, hwo do you get screen shots like these? Is the a free move camera mode?

Most of screens come from after battle when you get the free cam. As neato as it would be, an all powerful god camera in sabow would totally destroy the tank sim aspect. Unlike APOS where only units that are spotted show (unless you have it set up for show everything........total cheat IMO) it renders all units at all times as a tank sim should.

As to the second part. Right now no decent way to do it. The easiest is to go in configs and change stuff around and use the interior model of t62 or m60. It LOOKS TOTALLY AWFUL and you have no functionality with commands. Sooner or later someone could model a basic interior of other tanks in sabow and figure out how to configure the weapons and sights to be playable. But learning curve to do all this is huge and vary time consuming.


Oh another thing.... I keep hoping Gravi will will add interiors to at least the oliphant (south africain centurian). I keep asking for a playable bmp1 so I don't think I have much pull on that. rofl. Maybe an addon dlc? Or a SABOW 2? Hmmm who knows.

The signatures on the picture is wrong, they are contrary to what is written in the statistics.

We see at statistic:
1) driver and gunner is killed ("Still intact" - NO)
2) radio broken
3) turret mechanisms is broken - "Turret safe" - NO
4) ammunition dispersed and uncovered (I dont know right term for this in English)

To fire appeared need to have something that can fire. High-explosive projectile does not guarantee the ignition.
Wheels with protection, and from a shell exploded _inside_ (HE shells have a fuse) armored car they shielded by armor.

alas you raise a fair point however I have found it that these statistics are not dishonest, many are the times I have seen "immobilized" and "Engine" upon striking the foe, and they continue their charges

I was quite surprised at the sturdiness of this BTR upon my shells! the smoke lifted away after the fateful explosion... suddenly.. I see the BTR standing there defiant.. suddenly many soldiers started emerging around it.. hatches were pushed open... I throw another HE-P shell to ignite this BTR.. yet it is defiant!!

you are right friend I should have utilized the HEAT shells... that would've shown the BTR! by the way I wish turrets could fly at this game! that would be gloriously realistic yep

also questionable is gunner's death!! the shells appear to have impacted violently outside on the walls with possible heavy shards and spall inside.. but impact low in chassis at driver's compartment (R.I.P, most threatened crewman!) gunner is far away! in the turret confused

Engine problems can be different and have meny levels. Not all of them lead to the total impossibility of movement.
Immobilized the same thing - can vary from temporary bogged or fixed from time to totall immobilization.

Statistics can show current state and memorize whats happen.

This is totally unrealistic (flying turrets) is most cases, for BTRs is absolutely unrealisic if you dont hit it from huge guns or bombs.

HE shells have fuses and in most cases dont explode outside thin shields. In case of BRDM HE shell broke armor and explode inside armored car and as result _can_ kill crew (but not guaranteed) even in turret.
At other side Canister shell on shots with BMP-1, has an instantaneous detonator and explodes normally on the shield. And gives shrapnel field, some fragments in your case is penetrate armor in the fueltank area and led to leakage of fuel.

BRDM is very small, I surmise even sabot that will completely oblitirate armor and fly across this even that will cause saddening losses to the crew, it is very tight! what passes the thin protection of this vehicle has a high chances of impacting crew! but in BTR case it is very long and somewhat high causing wide space between the men, atleast this mean one man dies when struck through by the enemy, the rest may survive unless if catastrophic explosions or heavy spall or landmine etc..

IN sabow I have to agree. But mainly due to generally lower tank engagement ranges where the M60 can not take full advantage of its fire control system. In closer in fights the T62 is better IMO as its smaller and faster.

First of all great screen shoots.
I have been watching Steel Armour Blaze of War for a long time now.
It has a lot of features I would love to see in Steel beasts the Armour sim I use.
Such as visible crew. I am very tempted to give it a try.
I recognise some of the names on this thread, They some times appear on the SB thread so.
How do you compare the two sim,s which is better and why

BOTH are good. This is IMO a situation where both do real world tanking. SBPRO more focuses on 80's to now tech. With focus on NOW. SABOW is 2 playable cold warriors. The interiors are a lot better than SBPRO but BOTH again are legit tank game. SABOW better visuals all around. But SBPRO gets the job done too.

At sabows heart is a real time tactics game. It uses play system from k43 and APOS but with tank sim. What this effectively means is a dynamic campaign over a set series of turns. SB uses general scenarios. Both have plus and negative sides. SB has longer engagement ranges. IN sabow engine is set to either 2000 or 3000 meters. Battle areas for a turn are 3 square KM with 1km borders around each side. It is possible for ai at least to drive 5 km across the map. For player you are stuck in 3km area. BUt it usually works just fine. The overall size of the maps are way bigger but battles are always broken into those smaller boxes. However these tanks are older so 3000 meters is pretty far for them and usually never have LOS that far.

Both are good. Sabow is way cheaper. Both are most certainly a buy. I personally think they go together rather well.

Both are excellent as Flash stated. Modern era vs "less modern" era. Sabow is a very deep sim, but imo,a less steep learning curve.

SB Pro has MP though.

All ground attack aircraft in Gravi stuff is not all that effective. Sometimes they hit right on and kill a few big things but usually just damage a few tanks and maybe kill a static gun or recoiless rifle. The Mi24's sometimes actually hit something with their crappy at2 missile. But that was a pretty crappy 1st generation guided missile.

They'r not very deadly... but sometimes I order to abandon tanks when under aerial attack!

Fierce battle!!!!!!!









My men defended a perimeter 4 kilo meter long... sounds of machinery and apapretus were heard at dawn, and a fierce attack was launched by the south africans and their ally.... gunfire did not stop for an hour and many armor vehicle and car destroyed... many died, after reach within only 100 meter from my line they ran away... my men counterattacked into the open field where the enemy was caught and suffered shameful deaths... their soldiers struggled and died, rest in peace

another ferocious battle of bloody proportions....


my angolans & elite cuban reinforcement troops fought the battle of survive , attacking unwary and worried south african armoured formation....

they attempted to advance upwards the mountain across tumpo river... but were surprised with my forces hiding behind strange hillshape (reminds me of the peninsular war of french and british!!!!)

many died.. but victory was earnst!!!!


the beautiful trees and forests and grass and sky of the africa at kwito kwanavale.... the majestic paradise of earth... make no mistake my comrade.. as majestic as this is this is where we fight and die and many before us have die






battle is joined and barrage falls... it appears a naive signalsman and spotters and troopers of geography of the south african troops have made the artillery strike falter towards their own advance much to the relief of my weary troops





reports of enmey soon channel through the wireless... the enemy have maade a great mistake and is now realizing of it and start to make smoke barrage for cover, some troops retreated, my angolans in their armoured trooper carriers surge forward in reluctance to sieze the day!






supporting the advance general!!!





i surge forward with support from my comrades in their tanks behind me, 300 meters ahead to participate in the attack, i find the area have been heavily marked by the scars of war






the adjacent troop carrier finds their enmey to the front and reports locations to me... the marksman hits!!!





my troops launched voracious attacks down the hillshape, enemy was only meters away, fighting was fearsome and my tank came under heavy fire!!!!






hit! there is little time for regret marksman... we have to kill for survive!!





the subbordinate troop carrier and personnel come across bad fortune and are targeted voraciously by retributive enemy troops... the carrier was struck heavily by enemy shells and fired... many died and some escape, i conduct fierce evasive manouevers to evade enemy fire and drive quickly , i find a tank less then 150 meters to my left!!!!!!!!!! there they are!!





maybe are they die!!!! maybe are they surrender or malfunction??





no! we cant make risks! struggle is inevitable, fire shell!!

an enemy command wheel-propel vehicle that was hit by one of my cuban marksmen... what a glorious achievement to strike down such a worthy foe! their officers were plotting for treacherous victory inside!







enemy vehicles and machines that were struck during the attempt to retreat...







it have been destroyed... hope for crew to survive...







the plains of kwito kwanavale... where many soldiers from the armies, angola, cuba, the union of the soviets, southern africa, have fought and died... they died for their country's cause , their memory have never forget

i HAVE not play my dear lovely SA:BOW for nearly a month!... it has been saddening!! and patch cannot apply since bought new laptop (brand dell) don't ever buy dell laptop!!! i advice you from my heart, friends, do not buy it! worst laptops on our round planet, it is sad

i have been tired and struggling with teaching biology to my students, i moved to a new model highschool!!! everything is so beautiful, my students are great and friendly-like!!!! i wait for vacation soon, i will punch this laptop and buy anew soon!

it was a long night... my tank detachments dug in on the hillside across the river tumpo... under moonlight, the south-afircans and UNITA troops advanced. 4 armoured vehicles emerged out of the bushes and were struck... in the 30 minutes later my tanks vigoriously fired into the area infront of them as dozens of enemy infantry attempted to escape




destroyed targets in distance




a horrible death...




they died escpaing!!!





half-hour later, several enemy soldiers crawled slowly towards our position and attempted their attack, one UNITA soldier fired RPG-9 at our dug-in tanks but did not find his mark... firefight broke, our tanks vigorously returned fire and several enemy soldiers found themselves ni the most bitter situation!!!!


enemy soldiers that were hit during the attack




anti-tank specialist that died alongside his weapon, carrying the attack for last!




the results!

M60A1 RISE USMC circa 1992
Here's something I've been working on since early September. Still a long way to go as I need to bake the high-poly model onto a low poly and get the model working in game. I thought that I could just use the Graviteam interior so I don't have to start from scratch there as well.

If I ever get it finished, the hope is I can use the existing Iraqi T-62s and recreate Desert Storm.

I think they are using this more as a test bed for future use. I would certainly like to see more stuff and campaigns. But that probably is not realistic. But reworked Iran map is certainly good. That map had some issues. Hopefully a bit better in newer version.

The improved Iran is looking good. As we know... Susangerd was flooded to try and slow down Iraq. Turned into a right mess. What IMO was missing was the flooding. Only one small part of map had any. Oh and it was just out of playable area.

Good to see SABoW will be getting some improvements, still disappointed that outside of the Iran/Iraq campaign it's all about the T-62 though, was hoping for a little more.

I really don't think anything large will happen. Even if sales of this exploded.

Would be much better to clean the slate. Take what works from sabow and do something BETTER. HMMMM ww2 tank sim? Been awhile....

SABoW has always had the potential to become a true classic like SFK42 or even Steel Beast Pro. We all understood not much could be done in the early going because of UIG's involvement, but if that is coming to an end why not try to do just a little more then what was announced so far? I think 90% of SABoW players would agree that at the minimum 1 if not 3 vehicles already in SABoW need to become user playable if no addition campaigns are going to be added. Now two of these vehicles have already been started by community members (BMP and M113) but for various reason have stalled. So if I may inquire how much work do you feel it would take to use what's already been done by the modders, add whats missing, add it to the game code and get it into the game as user playable vehicles? I'm sure the makers of these vehicle mods would be okay with you adding their work to yours to get these vehicles into SABoW. By adding the BMP and M113 in addition to having the Chieftain/Olifant would really open up Operation Hoopper and the Khuzestan Offensive campaigns in SABoW. As for funding why not make these vehicles paid DLC's? If charging for the BMP or M113 is questionable since community members have already worked on them I understand but it should be fine for the Chieftain or Olifant (both?). Or let us know what's needed funds wise and maybe we can make it happen with private donations? As far as the needed vehicle information I'm sure it can be obtained, Graviteam managed to do it with the M60 right?

All I can say is if this could happen I know I would repurchase SABoW at full price and buy the DLC's. If you want to float a test ballon there's always the poll option here at SimHQ.

If phylosophy - SF and SB ways I do not like. I think both ways not have perspectives and SABOW way too, but we can change it.

We do not plan to do a user-controlled vehicles with less quality than M60 and T-62. If you have a cockpit, animation, and the vehicle what is not made worse, and you're ready to give it to us (or know where to get this smile ) - there is something to talk about. If not, the fact is not yet to discuss now.

At first - right choice for vehicles.
Centurion and T-55, T-34 or M4 or PzIII is good, BT-5 and HaGo very good, T-72 and Chieftain is good but expensive, BRDM-2 is good but limited purpose. APCs is bad choice smile

I can say in the case of my m113 playable it needs the interior model finished, the entire mesh needs a going over to update it (which I all ready did 2 years ago but is not unwrapped or textured), needs animations, and rigging to actually work right in game. Never could figure out all that stuff. Just got it sort of drivable with the recoiless rifle version got the M40 to be able to shoot right. The .50cal MG never worked right.


But I am doing the wait and see. I vary well may reopen my M38a1 jeep and see if I can get the damned thing playable. That would mean being aloud to command other forces when no tanks around. BUT animations, well there would not be any that would fit the actual model. But if it did work, doing something like a gaz jeep or land rover would be logical for the same reasons. As would perhaps something simple like a BTR152 etc. Not even going to think about tanks interiors...see below.

The conclusion I came too after working for months on the RO2 vehicle mode teams KV1...now totally defunct after TWI sort of took a big poop on the core of the team and since it was a group effort I can not really do anything with that model. Although it was looking DAMNED good despite some issues. Is that it is better to do smaller vehicles while working toward the big boys. Tank insides are incredibly complex (same for BMP1). They are hard to model without being able to get in the thing. A pain to unwrap the bits and pieces plus texture. And then the animations and rigging. So unless incredibly good reference material or being able to get in the vehicle with pictures and measurements its asking for mega pain. Simple APC's and jeep like vehicles are much more possible being as they are WAY more simple. Oh and really cool in their own right.

Final thought. My skill level vastly improved since I first set out to mod crap into SABOW. A round 2 does have a certain appeal.

Just talking out loud. If a mod crazy pants round 2 does happen, assuming there is enough interest from old and maybe new players. Well maybe this time I try and form more a small modding team. If Andrey is saying he will stick in models into the game it removes a large barrier.

This need little bit different gameplay and support in combat-interface for infantry management.
This is not impossible, but at the moment as it is - tanks better than APCs smile

This way not worked.
For example a hundred times more than a simple matter - different voices for tank crew, from 2011 there is no progress in this direction.

In our case I do not believe. And in my opinion is wrong. Money from player side necessary to pay upon purchase, and not before. Otherwise inevitable disappointment that I gave the money - and got not what I wanted.

The presence in the game is not the most important issue.
For example to make a model and cockpit of BT-7 tank, it's easier than just the only cockpit to the already present Chieftain.

Graviteams position seems pretty clear as far as extra armor content or new maps go for this version (upgrade?) of SABoW. Only hope is maybe this version will attract some modder or modding group who can figure it out, do the grunt work and offer up the completed work for Andrey to implement it into SABoW. Keeping my fingers crossed and probably hoping beyond hope smile

I do not see that really happening as far as tanks go. Well if you mean with good quality interiors. Where talking at least 500 man hours here for 1 tank. Probably a lot more. BUT... if this shows a realitic tank sim is viable again. Which IMO is probably the best we can hope for. Well who knows..

More realistic maybe something like a new map/campaign DLC? That certainly seems possible to me. HMMMM M60? biggrin

In the beginning when it became apparent we wouldn't get any new user playable armor in SABoW from Graviteam to use, many of us floated the ideal of at least more campaigns and more maps to use the M60 and T-62 in (some actually tried like you FB and whukid and I for one appreciated the effort). I was for this because of the M60 in particular since you could only use that piece of armor in one campaign. Nothing against the T-62 but I really purchased SABoW for the M60 experience (with some exceptions explained here in a bit). In all honesty why would you develop a tank sim featuring the M60 and T-62, do all the research and modeling for both, then only have one playable for all the campaigns and maps? Graviteam could have saved a lot of money and time by not wasting their resources on the M60 and just made a T-62 simulator like their T-72 simulator (T-72: Balkans on Fire). Would I have purchased SABoW if it only had the T-62 playable? Very probable since tank sim's are just rare and I enjoy them. If the savings from not doing the M60 would have been used for more content like maps and campaigns and an easy to use editor I know for sure I definitely would have bought SABoW san's the M60. We will probably never know if having the M60 user playable was Graviteams ideal or was UIG's requirement.
But back on topic, the response we got from Graviteam was more or less these reason's:
1). Because of UIG's involvement (and non-payment) Graviteam had no interest in doing anything further with SABoW (understandable but that shackle is apparently about to come off).
2). It wouldn't be historically correct to have the M60 in the other campaigns or the M60 and T-62 in "what if's" (the orc's and elves speech, sorry Andrey couldn't resist wink ) .
3). Money
Now anyone who has followed SABoW since the beginning remembers that game clip with the M60 and T-62 slugging it out on a European map (probably from K43 or Operration Star), and I know there was a lot of buzz about it (good not bad) but it was only later we found out the map was just used as a place setter frown
But in all honesty why not give SABoW some new maps from Operation Star? Offer up the DLC maps that followed for OP:Star as DLC's for SABoW, why not? As far as "Historically Correct" who actually cares if it's a "what if" ? As long as the combatants are using what was actually available to them at the time does it really matter where? Point and case is Steel Beast Pro, almost all their missions are "what if's" and I don't see any of their hardcore tread heads complaining (I know I don't). To a layman like myself I don't see how this could be "expensive" unless you go way overboard, keep it simple to start with, use what you already have then you could add more content as your making money from new SABoW sales and the DLC's or don't but give an editor that allows modders to make and add the gingerbread. The old but tried and true business adage applies here, you have to spend a little money in order to make (hopefully lot's of) money. Speaking just for myself if Gravi would do this I would:
1). Repurchase the new version of SABoW at full price.
2). Buy all the DLC's that were done for Operation:Star (or any others) that could be used in SABoW at full price.
3). Buy a separate, dedicated easy to use full mission editor that would allow me to craft my own missions and campaigns off the maps in the DLC's (reference Strike Fighters 2 for this one).
Am I made out of money, hell no. But I do allow myself a budget for my hobby and it goes to whomever is offering up what I want. Case and point I have $100.00 set aside in my hobby budget that is going to be used to buy DCS Bf109-K4 and MiG-21. Now if Gravi would offer up anything that I just suggested anyone want guess where that $100.00 would be used for instead?

Let us not hurry. All we do consistently and unhurriedly. Bad thing to start build/repair a house starting from the roof. At first it is necessary to renew the foundation and walls. So in this case the foundation is the main game with two tanks and those that conflicts there.

I think if all ok with base: release on GamersGate and other sites, patchs etc. And if we get / see some interest, I think some steps towards expanding the game content (in good old DLC way like GTOS smile )we will do. As an aside modern tanks and may be in the direction of WWII, and maybe even a third direction, but about which I will not yet say now charge .

By all means I do think it's a great ideal to fix the foundation first where needed before you add an addition to the house analogy you stated here Andrey, and I cannot find fault with that whatsoever. I'm not posting here to as we say in the US "to bust your chops". I love what Graviteam has done so far, but I have to be honest when I say I'm just really frustrated with SABoW right now.
Thank you for your response and what you explained just now has really given me some hope for SABoW.

I think I disagree with you as to the APC aspect. Especially in Angola and Afghanistan, APC's would be very useful. Who knows, maybe we could get a Vietnam mod going for the M113 biggrin

Andrey is probably thinking about how most light armor is used. That is, infantry transport. Not screening, recon, or the everything else category that they full fill. And most folks will probably agree with that. Sure, if you have sat behind something like a 12.7mm, 14.5mm, 25mm cannon...well YA you have a different out look. Since all of those are able to kill every damn thing on the battlefield except tanks. Well until the last few decades at least.

A playable BRDM-2 in the scout or spotting role would be vary nice. As would something simple like an m113. As an infantry transport, well I am not entirely sure that would actually be that great. Even if the user interface and engine where redone to do that. But most folks that have never been on an AFV will forever look down on the lowly APC's. Even though they are in the greatest numbers of armor on a given battlefield. For a tank game not many want to play 12.7mm M2HB gunner. And I have NEVER seen this done right in any game. A complete lack of understanding how a heavy MG actually works and what it can do to vehicles and light armor.

no one want rambo in a m113 :/ u can rambo with the m2 50. caliber machinegune on the m60 tactical


i think it would be best not for playable vehicle, but additional vehicles, u know? like more btr variant, t-72, iraqi vehicles given to iran, new trucks, mt-lb, new trucks, personnel carrier, more variety and things u can see on the battlefield, not must things you can play inside biggrin

but if it will be playable, chieftain!!!! crew

The Last night of the attack. Iraqi Infantry from the 5th Mechanized Infantry Division suffered a catastrophic defeat earlier in the day from Iranian M60a1's, working closely with F-5E Close Air Support and their own mechanized forces. The Northern flank of the entire front collapsed under the en masse assault, of which not even the feared Hind-D could stem (though lord knows they tried their best, surviving multiple 105mm HE rounds to the cockpit and engine... tuner ). The Iraqi counter-attack to the south had some initial success against unsupported infantry, but was slowed and finally halted by Iranian armor. Caught in the open by Iraqi Hinds, Iranian mechanized infantry faired terribly, an entire platoon being wiped out in a single go before a platoon of T-55's stormed their position. Two were knocked out by RPG-7's, the final by supporting M60a1 fire. The latter had been under constant air attack for over 30 minutes before desperate HE rounds drove off the Mi-25's.

After the Armored spearhead to the south fell flat, the badly depleted armored platoons began a deadly game of cat and mouse, often at ranges up to and beyond 2000m when the weather permitted. The T-55 showed itself to match the M60a1, even with the latter's rangefinder (which doesn't seem to work beyond 1300 yards), however vastly inferior at close ranges. Once the Tanks were destroyed, Iraqi BMP's and BTR's became fodder for the M60's.

Iraqi counter-attacks were hampered by the irrigation canals and F-5E strikes. At one point, 7 Iraqi T-55 and BMP-1's were knocked out or destroyed by M60 fire while the two remaining T-55's drowned for the loss of 2 M60a1's and an M113.

After the Iraqi Armor was bled dry, Iranian Patton's surged forward in the center. Terrible close range fights in the villages of Susengerd reaped a horrific toll on friend and foe alike. Now it was the Iranians' turn to pay dearly for ground; 8 Iranian M60's were either destroyed or severely damaged during the fighting. Two entire platoons were knocked out by Iraqi Tanks, BMP's, and AT-3 Sagger teams. Though now the Iranians were feeling the hurt from their own high losses, the Iraqi 5th Infantry Division never gets a reprieve from the Iranian onslaught. For every M113 knocked out, 4 BTR's are destroyed and 2 BMP's. After the 1st Platoon was destroyed in the heavy fighting for the villages, the Mechanized forces remained within earshot of supporting tanks at all times and thus saved themselves from further losses. Back and forth fighting over the village raged throughout the day, Iraqi infantry forces attempting to hit the battered Iranian tankers and their supporting paratroopers before they could be reinforced. Unfortunately for the Iraqi's, it is not enough and the Iranian's hold the village, despite two fierce firefights over the burned out hulks of M60's knocked out in the initial attack and the town's Western perimeter.

In the South, Iranian infantry forces launch an assault, but it is halted by Hind intervention. Only with the support of two M60 platoons do the infantrymen advance towards their vastly inferior foe and take minimal losses.

As the sun sets on the first day of battle, the Iraqi line is completely shattered. They don't even have the strength to contest the Iranian gains, which the latter can barely occupy with shredded units. As the sun sets, the Iranian assault is renewed. Now the confusion and poor road conditions really begin to hamper the attack; 5 Iranian tanks are drowned without ever coming into combat. Two are destroyed by T-55 fire, but not before wiping out a mechanized company, complete with BMP's and BTR's along with their three supporting T-55's. One M60a1 is knocked out by friendly fire and another M113 is knocked out by a hidden BMP-1. In the north, the Iranians lose 9 vehicles in the last armored strike, but the Iraqi's lose their remaining 3 T-55's, Two BMP's and a BTR, with no more armored reserves.

The Iraqi line no more, Iranian armored columns divide into two forces and sweep the rest of the roads for Iraqi infantry. Lacking the communication to retreat, Iraqi infantry are isolated and overwhelmed by Mechanized columns in short but violent clashes. The Iraqi squad sized elements had been left to defend vital crossing points on their own, and fell victim to the horrific effects of 12.7mm Browning M2 and 7.62mm ammunition, complemented with the occasional 105mm HE round.

In the south, skeleton Iraqi infantry units face off against fresh Iranian paratroopers and mechanized infantry, supported by exhausted M60a1 crews.

YA, the hind is a little, hmmm hard to kill? Is that what phrase I am looking for? Or its a bug introduced in remastered sabow? While air craft never blow up alas. They should stop attacking and fly off the screen when hit with a 105mm HE shell I would think.

Yea, I was a tad baffled. But then again, it also takes 4 or 5 shots to kill a T-55 with a HEAT round, so I guess it's all proportional. I was shocked by their long range accuracy; taking hits at over 2400m! My rangefinder couldn't keep up!

what a battle whukid... i know your struggle, the iraqis always fight for last, they'r harsh and unforgiving when you siege thme to a corner.. i will remember this story


when u come under aerial attack always conduct evasive manouevers to evade incoming bullets, at night time scan vigorously using both IR and normal vision, the enemy may have his lights put on at night, this can be seen long away, also, make no mistake, even if it seems like nothing is there, if u focus very sharply on the image, you can catch a faint shape, it sometimes happens

The Southern flank, 2200 hours.

The "skeleton Iraqi Infantry" had three tank platoons in reserve, unbeknownst to the Iranians. As their armored spearhead approached the highway from the east, a close range melee ensued. Neither side's IR systems appeared to be working, and the gunners were forced to use the tracers of their coaxial machineguns to identify their targets. Though the Iranians began the melee by opening fire first, the Iraqi's quickly annihilated the combined arms group and wiped the entire armored force out within 20 minutes. A reserve platoon was also destroyed completely as it rushed to the aid of the attack. 12 Iranian tanks and Armored Personnel carriers were left mere feet from the road as 3 T-55's, a T-62, 3 BMP's and a BTR-60PB were also knocked out. The void left over from the action was quickly filled with Iraqi infantry.

In the morning, a counterattack by the Iraqi infantry is blunted by a barrage from M60's being used as self propelled artillery. 2 M60's and a T-55 are lost in the exchange, along with another BMP and BTR. Soon the clear skies give way to more rain, and the fire dies down.

As the sun comes up the Iranians scramble to regain the initiative. An immediate armored spearhead is ordered on a north to south bearing, flanking the Iraqi gains and giving the Iranian infantry breathing room.

A flight of F-5's supports the Iranians as the Pattons surge forward. This time, it is the Iraqi's who are caught in the open. T-55's desperately maneuvering to escape the relentless strafing runs by the F-5's are identified and fired upon at a thousand yards. Unlike usual, the first two go up in flames in the first salvo. A T-62 is caught just behind the first T-55's and also destroyed. As the force continues to push south, another T-55 is identified and suffers the same fate. The Iraqi's quickly retreat, as the Iranians appear to vastly outnumber them. 5 Iraqi vehicles are destroyed while the Iranians suffer no losses.

Iranian infantry quickly overtake the farthest advances from the previous night, but there are no survivors

In a desperate bid to recapture their positions, the Iraqi's launch an all out counter assault with their only remaining units. Two more T-62's are destroyed as they advance through the fog and a short infantry action and point blank range leaves an M60 damaged. As the fog lifts, BMP's begin a AT-3 barrage, but to no effect. Now the range finders on the M60's are working correctly, and each is knocked out in turn at 1100 yards. The Iranian perimeter is finally advanced beyond the crossroads, but at a heavy cost.

The Iraqi's are quickly mopped up in turn, again without Iranian loss.

In the south the campaign is over. The Iraqi armored forces have been wiped out, though at a heavy cost. In the north, a final attempt to recapture the causeways over the irrigation canal is met head on by an Iranian combined arms force. Quickly the Iraqi infantry is dispatched small arms fire along with their carriers, but the T-55's following in their wake quickly knock out an M60 and force the other to occupy a hull-down position and take pot-shots until the mechanized reserve arrives from the south. High explosive and SABOT rounds pound the Iranian positions and make crossing the irrigation canal a costly move. M47 Dragon teams begin firing at the two remaining T-55's and account for one. The remaining T-55 continues to fire on the causeway, in spite of accurate fire from the M60.

The Iranian attack is successful. Iraqi forces have suffered huge casualties and are forced back, however the Iranians also suffer terribly.

Dateline: Afghanistan. A detachment of 70th Guards MRR has been attacked and enveloped by the mujahideen. 24th Tank Regiment is sent to the rescue. The detachment has been badly smashed, but our T62s and T55s assault mujahideen infantry in the open, with the fighters supported by AA guns.

Great slaughter ensues and we sweep them from the field.

No, I ended the campaign since it was obvious I controlled the field. The remaining Iraqi was only 2 tanks strong, so I didn't really think it would be worth going through more losses.

I haven't decided what to do next. maybe the Iraqi campaign? The Angolan campaign always annoys me because I can't see through the thick underbrush. Realistic, but infuriating.

there is great terrain... a mountain, I will tell you about it later, it is on angola and it is focal fighting point and very good defensive position.. the secret to survive in angola is to hide and not be seen and launch vigorous attacks at night, at day the enemy is too many and powerful to confront

Iraqi campaign is a harsh adventure, u have no infantry, but it is very interesting and fun.. it's very very hard though, and the weather is terrible, dig in and hold for last with your tanks against the onslaught, i will share with you supreme terrain and defensive positions from ishan-al-khamarra that may help you in the iraqi campaign
