I'm having trouble with presets. I can select and communicate on freqs, but presets are just not working for me. I've RTFM several times and must be reading what I want to see and not what I need to see.

The radio's display will show the last entered frequency and that will be used when the Frequency Selection Dial is in Manual.

If the Frequency Selection Dial is switched to Preset then the preset frequencies are used, which may not be the frequency in the display.

If dealing with radio presets, it is most useful to have a reference sheet handy, like maybe on your mission sheet on your kneeboard. And yes, the display on the radio stack will not change if you're using presets (I was confused about this too at one point!). What makes it even more confusing is when setting your own preset channels, it can be a bit odd sometimes as you don't get any "feedback" that you've done things correctly, until you try to contact someone on that preset.
