You would think that lowering the landing gear would just be impossible to forget. But there are so many instances every year. When I was preparing to buy an aircraft, one of the things I looked at was insurance and maintenance. Insurance is more than twice as high for retractable gear as for fixed gear. Maintenance costs much higher as well. Unless you have some kind of system behind you financing your flying, fixed gear is the way to go.

Just makes taxiing a little tougher.

Which one of our members (I think it was an admin) hit the go around lights while they were in the service because a plane was coming in without its gear deplyed?

Lots going on and you can get caught-up in task overload.

I can't count the number of times I have made what I thought was the perfect approach in a sim only to find out after I landed that I forget to deploy the landing gear. You don't have anywhere near the task overload problem in a sim either.

No problem on that one. All he needed to do was turn off his engines, wait 3 minutes, and the plane is repaired!!

I love how the pilot announces it after it's been completely obvious to everyone, and bonus for using the word 'deploy'!

Damn, I knew I forgot to do something, poor #%&*$#. It does happen tho as others have said, task over load and stuff. I like in falcon on short final, check gear down. I can not tell you in a sim how many times I said oops thanks for the reminder, lol.
