Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory.

And any taxi instructions from the tower that include jacks and a tug probably mean you are gonna have some paperwork to fill out.

Beach, I'll call that one the instructor's fault . . .

Amazing how people can get so fixated on a task that something as glaringly obvious as that horn can go unnoticed. I remember interviews with Vietnam Phantom pilots who said similar things - that their RIO would call out a Mig or missile and the pilot never heard it.

Of course, I also heard interviews where the pilots said one of the first items they added to their checklist was to turn off the speaker for the backseater too . . .

Of course it's the instructor's fault. He is the PIC as far as the FAA is concerned.

When my dad had his Bonanza he very nearly made a gear up landing ONCE. He was slightly distracted by pattern traffic, a fairly good cross-wind, and a talkative friend who was flying with him. I always made a point to check for 'three green' on final when I flew with him.

Saw a guy Q-tip his props at the local airport in a Beech Duchess once. He realized his gear weren't down and firewalled the throttles, but still managed to mangle both props. He did make it around and landed it gear down, but that was one expensive 'oops'.
