You guys think this title won't be a success like Black Shark and A-10C? I have my doubt too, since it's practically going to fight in the market directly against Il-2 series (1946 and ClOD). I doubt the offer of more switches to flip will appeal much to the mostly fanatical propheads hahaha. The fact that it only has one flyable airplane won't help either.
I was actually hoping the next DCS will be F-15 (C or E), F/A-18E, or AH-1 (AH-64 is boring already hahaha).

The next DCS might be. You guys are not reading all there is to read.

Quote:
The P-51D will be the first aircraft in the Flying Legends series that focuses on historical aircraft that have set benchmarks in combat aviation. This series of simulations demonstrates the broad scope of DCS simulation environment and its ability to introduce aircraft from all eras into a common simulation environment. While the P-51D started as an internal technology demonstration, it has evolved into an independent product that adds an all new dimension to the DCS universe. The development of the P-51D and other Flying Legends series aircraft definitely does not preclude the continued development of modern aircraft.

The 'Flying Legends" will be done by a new studio (no clue if they will be full games or just add-on planes.) The development of these planes will not slow down the development of any new modern combat systems. (supposedly)

So basically they are just going to be more flyable planes for DCS multiplayer. I am hoping they flesh out a Korea war simulation though when they go to release the p-51 but I have my doubts. I bet they just throw it out as an expansion that requires a-10 or bs2.

I'm not saying it should be removed but with the way the series has gone so far with upgrading existing products to enable an integrated airspace it just seems random that we're now going to have a Mustang that 'seamlessly' fits into it all!

What will be the next Classics module? A hot air balloon or another piece of the puzzle that doesn't fit. Don't get me wrong the Mustang is a great bit of historic machinery but I just don't get it. To be honest I think the mustang would be better released as a standalone entity that steals existing items from the DCS series but has a parallel path that suits the era.

See the bit in bold.

Well, that was rather anti-climactic. I know some folks will like this, but for me it just extends the wait for a modern DCS fast mover.

What was all the secrecy for?

Yes an independent project that will not slow development of any modern combat systems.

To me that sounds like they are saying they will continue to develop their modern combat line and also develop a "flying legends" line that will interface with their DCS multiplayer servers.

Unless you were refering to the planes as an add-on and then I think you are correct that the project being "independant" definantly means no addon. But that independant project might just be plane/server (no ai). They could release it as a "airshow" plane game.

A high fidelity Mustang sim would be very sweet indeed.

Oh, sorry, I thought DCS Flying Legend is the title of this upcoming P-51 sim. Should've read it more carefully hahaha

But I still worry about it. What you guys think; will it stand against Il-2 series, which people will undoubtedly compare it against, IMHO? I hate to see them wasting money and resources that could have been (better) spent to develop the next DCS title.

I get what you are saying - but think of it more in the line of an FSX approach to a new aircraft, rather than what would basically be a completely brand new simulator.
